I am here for Friends

About Me

I am a 9th grade english teacher, and I paint commissioned portraits and murals in my off-time. (Check out my website AmyLSheppard.com to see some of my work) I live in Dallas and recently became engaged to one of my best friends (and next door neighbor) from college, Joe Scott, who is a film-maker, and the person who is completely responsible for my love of the movie "So I Married and Axe Murderer."
I like a lot of things (see column on the left) but I feel compelled to mention the things I don't like, which include SUV's, milk, cooked spinach, Flight of the Concords, people obsessed with Eastern culture to the point of idiocy, Asian food (except sushi), anime, video games, fantasy football, midgets, religious extremists, american football, Sudoku, men or women past 30 who are covered in tatoos, and line dancing. I believe it is only though finding out what you AREN'T that you can truly discover who you ARE.
I love movies, books, food, and pop culture. I am a painter first. I'm a teacher second. I'm a writer third. I'm in the process of working on a masters degree in counseling; one day, after I teach high school for a while, I hope to become an art therapist. I want to consume exotic cheeses in France. I want to browse at a bookstore in Prague. I want to see the Boboli Gardens in Florence with my fiance this summer. Most of all, I hope I wake up one morning and decide I never have to look at my computer again.
As a libra, I have a terrible time making decisions. I'm still trying to figure out what to wear yesterday. My closet is a mess, but my livingroom is spotless. I collect all things butterflies. I make no apologies for my lack of computer literacy, or the fact that I don't know how my television works. If you are a friend there is nothing I won't do for you, including give you a piece of my godiva chocolate, bake you a birthday cake , or take your hysterical call at 3 am. I have an insatiable sweet tooth, so watch out if you leave candy or sweets lying around; they may be gone when you get back. I love to wake up on Sunday mornings and read in bed, and I am very serious about music fitting whatever mood I am in. In fact, I have an imaginary soundrack that constantly plays in the back of my mind. If I get bored, I just turn it up and drown everything else out. Sometimes, I am a walking contradiction. I change my mind at the drop of a hat. I am also introverted, so I don't like big crowds, but every now and then I have to throw a party. However, after socializing, it often takes me days to recover. I work best one-on-one, and nothing stimulates me more than a great conversation. So bring it on.
