Carroll County Extreme Music Corps Mission Statement:
The Carroll County Extreme Music Corps' primary goal is to give area kids and aspiring musicians a better way to spend their free time through sponsored events and encouraging involvement in music. The Corps provides a venue and entertainment at as reasonable a cost as our budget allows. We provide a place where the kids can ''act out'' in a safe, drug/alcohol free, controlled, all ages environment, without the outward appearance of any restrictions or censorship. It is our hope that this keeps these kids off the street and out of trouble. The kids will listen to and play ''extreme'' music with or without our involvement. We intend to make it a constructive environment that whole families can enjoy.
We bring kids and their families together at our events. While it is apparent that the parents and the youngest of the children don't enjoy the music, one can tell the parents are glad to see their kids at these shows rather than out getting into trouble. We want every kid, in every community, to have this opportunity available to them.
By ''kids'' we refer to both the kids in the audience and the kids on stage. The Corps Committee members are also musicians who understand what it is that attracts the kids to the music. Music is one of the most prolific and liberal forms of expression we know. Taking this medium and pushing it in a constructive direction will make these kids strong, committed, ethical individuals who can become the future roll-models and leaders that our communities will need to survive.
We do this by providing a free network where the kids are encouraged to get involved in making music. Utilizing Myspace.com (one of the most popular websites for both teens and musicians), the kids have access to classified ads (free to read or post), show listings, general discussion and special opportunities that the kids may not otherwise know about or have access to. This is actually how the Corps started before putting on events was even considered.
While our name is Carroll County ''Extreme'' Music Corps, and our events primarily feature ''Extreme'' bands, membership is open to ALL area musicians, photographers, engineers, etc. Basically anything involved in music and/or the production thereof, since it can be quite a multi-faceted industry.
To date, we have not had any injuries or other unpleasant situations, nor have we had to remove anyone from any of our events due to aggression, drug/alcohol issues or for any other reason. We believe that the supportive environment we have created is a contributing factor to our success in this regard. We also have our own security team as well as access to off-duty police officers, fire-fighters and medical technicians (should the scale of an event deem it necessary). We also believe that our success in maintaining an incident free track record is due to our bringing only the most level headed and capable individuals onboard for our security team, individuals who can handle situations in a calm, rational, constructive manner without harming anyone. Assistance from (or requirement of) in-house security is always welcome. Additionally, venue policies are always strictly followed, and we always provide a copy of our contract that we issue to our performers to make sure that there are no conflicting terms.
Please join us in our efforts to better our children and our communities through music.
