stigMARTYR's Official Bio Starts here ;}
Since January 2001, South Australian band stigMARTYR have been writing and performing music that progresses beyond the stereotypes often associated with heavy music. While many acts are copying each other's sounds, or desparately trying to fit a certain genre of metal, stigMARTYR shine out as something refreshingly different.
A raw assault on the new low sounds of today with overtones of classic rock, stigMARTYR have a timeless sound that makes their music unique. Big low tuned riffs with intense heavy and melodic vocals, solid driving bass and drum grooves coupled with intricate rhythmic patterns that accent and punctuate the music.
From December 2001 - January 2002, stigMARTYR worked with renowned Adelaide based producer Tony Nesci (The Mark of Cain with Henry Rollins, Chalice, The Barflys, Fruit) on their debut EP "Evolve" which was released independently on the 5th of August 2002.
Having established a good name as a dynamic, high energy live act, stigMARTYR were finalists in the SA Live Band Competition (Oct 02) and left punters gob smacked with a short but awe inspiring performance at the Afterburn Festival (Wayville Showgrounds, Nov 02).
The momentum gained in 2002, increased during 2003 with many gigs including a finals berth in the National Campus Band Competition (Aug '03) and an invitation to headline the South Australian Music Industry Showcase "SAM 1"(Aug '03). stigMARTYR received a nomination in the 2003 MusicOz awards (Metal/Hardcore category) for their song "Confide (I am the Drug)".
Following the bands busiest and most successful year to date they parted ways with their vocalist in December 2003. Not being the type of band to lose sight of their goals and objectives, stigMARTYR progressed with their plans to record their first full-length album (commencing April 2004). Auditions for the position of vocalist were also underway, this however, proved to be a testing time for all.
With the majority of the material recorded by January '05, stigMARTYR were now intent on sourcing the new vocalist. After 28 painstaking auditions, the remaining three band members attended a performance by a solo acoustic artist named 'Kyri' and were knocked out by his presence, vocal ability and overall performance.
stigMARTYR, approached Kyri with the prospect of him fronting the band. Kyri attended a rehearsal and before the session was over, he was welcomed as the new vocalist of stigMARTYR (May '05).
Kyri commenced his vocals for the Anomaly album in July '05 and did numerous sessions until completion in July '06. The album was then mixed and mastered and the recording process finished by August '06.
Over 3 years had passed since the bands last official gig (1st Nov. '03), and on the 10th of December 2006 stigMARTYR made a triumphant return to the stage and local music scene with an overwhelming performance at the venue they last played in 2003, Adelaide's Crown & Anchor hotel (the Cranker).
March 31st 2007 saw stigMARTYR launch their highly anticipated Anomaly album at an event held at the Lizard Lounge, Adelaide, to an extremely receptive and totally insane crowd of over 450 mad metal heads!! Promoted by their record label, Awe Records, and sponsored by Jim Beam and others, the event was billed as "THE Adelaide metal event of 2007" and with a line up including 9 other awesome local metal bands, give aways, and an ESP guitar as a door prize, the show was more than just a gig it was indeed an EVENT.
After 3 years of break ups, down time, bad singers, blood, sweat, and harddrive crashes (yes, thats right, the album was almost lost at one point!) stigMARTYR are back and will be destroying a venue near you soon!!!
