About Me
Article from BostonPhoenix.com, (January 2007):
"Paser One is THE in-demand hip-hop and rap producer in Boston right now. As a 24 year old Boston University student, living in Allston, Mass, he has slowly developed himself and his record label, "State of Mind Records Inc.," over the past 5 years. Working with a wide variety of mc's and vocalists, he has frequently been called upon to create everything from hard-hitting rap beats for artists such as JCITY, A Sharp, Lit, and O.X. of Sound Royal, and Skieman Barnes from Skys the Limit, to melodic and club-friendly r+b ballads for artists such as JV the RapSinga and Lisa Bello. He tells us, "I really want to work with my artists on an individual and personal basis, and help them develop their own sound and give them tracks that they are actually proud of." In his eyes, he just loves producing hip-hop music, and will continue to do so whether he makes a profit from it or not. "I'm not in it for the money at all," he says, "I produce music because I love doing it and it makes me feel good to create something that sounds exciting." With a lengthy background in piano playing, as well being a self-taught guitar player, Paser One has been able to effectively incorporate an array of instruments into his beat making regiment. As we sit in on a Paser One recording session in a smoke-filled Allston high-rise buiding, we watch as he carefully orchestrates one of his hip-hop masterpieces on a Yamaha Motif 7 keyboard workstation. The tracks he plays for us all sound so completely different from one another, that it is real difficult to compare his style to any other producers. He uses a lot of eerie piano and string loops, echoing snares, and pounding bass lines, and really stresses a extra crisp and clean sound. "When I'm in the studio with an artist, I'm relentless in pushing every aspect of the song to perfection. I don't quit on something until it really sounds the way it should." He does not use any samples, and plays every sound with his fingers on the scales of the keyboard. He even shows us how he is able to replicate hit songs off the radio on his own equipment just by listening, and re-creating the chords and melodies. "It's kind of like when guitar players learn their favorite songs to play and practice. "Within 5 minutes, he shows us how Cassie's smash hit, "Me and U," was created, and systematically layers each sound into an exact duplication of the song. "I can make a beat in 2 minutes sometimes," the young producer admits, "but sometimes I come back to fine tune a song over a month long span. It's all about how the track feels to me, and whether simplicity is what feels right or not at that moment." The sit-in on the session with Paser One lasts a mere ten minutes, as he is obviously eager to be alone in his studio to concentrate, but the short stay is more than enough for us to see what Paser One is capable of. He is an extremely talented producer and musician, and his success as a hip-hop producer seems inevitable. Before leaving the interview, we were able to get a sneak preview of a couple of the instrumentals that will be recorded on, and appear on his upcoming debut production album, Paser One -"State of Mind." The album brags a lengthy list of talented Boston MC's and vocalists, and will be the only cross-genre album of it's kind. Never before has one producer been able to successfully craft an album that spans this distance of musical genres. With all the industry hip-hop that is being released lately, it is a sigh of relief to see a young and aspiring producer not limit himself to one sound or listener. Paser One sees his upcoming album as "a chance to show the top labels what he can do, and how many different styles of artists he can produce for." With that said, we warn the hip-hop world to be ready for a ground-breaking, original, and powerful record, from an "unsigned hype" caliber hip-hop producer.

Thanks to his close affiliation with the infamous Queens rap duo, Big Noyd has remained relevant despite taking the occasional extended hiatus. The rapper performs solo at Great Scott in Allston Wednesday, just days before Mobb Deep star Prodigy’s Feb. 7 date at the Middle East.
