â€Breathing Sequence represents the way of living. Either in depressive or happy situations Breathing Sequence express the way I feel. How to live without breath? Before we do something important in our lives we take a breath in a sequence. And the last breath is the hardest. These songs are my sequence.â€
- Through these words Nikola Milojevic envelopes the essence of the most prominent rendition of his creativity, namely, his solo musical project entitled Breathing Sequence.
Nikola was born in Cacak on 24th December 1988, and by his early teenage years started showing indignation towards being unjustly burdened with the pain and pleasure of living in Vrnjacka Banja, a homely place in central Serbia heavily embraced in the stupor and narrow-mindedness of the local folks. His weapon of choice for the vehement battle against this putrid environment was the guitar, whereas for the strategic stimulus and inspiration he had to search the World Wide Web.
First extrinsic tunes that he decided to reproduce were Pink Floyd and some heavy metal, followed shortly by a tentative attempt of Nikola’s own musical expression - his very first punk song called “Baba je mrtva†(grandmother is dead).
In time growing tired of the metallic taste of his songs, Nikola gradually turned to a steadier pulse of a more post-rock based sound and in August 2005 the Breathing commenced, as our (at the time 16-year-old) humdinger began tinkering with his computer bringing forth quiet catharsis of static harmony through mainly guitar-centric compositions supercharged with emotion. Bands and musicians that left the strongest impact on his music are Isis, Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Boards of Canada, Clann Zu, Piano Magic, Danny Cavanagh, Damien Rice, Jason Molina, David Gilmour…
Nevertheless, only in 2007 - drawn by the bright lights for the purpose of studying New Computer Technologies and Web Design at the Belgrade Uni - did Nikola finally get the chance to consociate with other musicians, which he used at once as live session guitarist for Amaranth. However, this experience, although pleasurable, also formed a strong incentive for a long overdue actualization of his own work onto real-time instruments, after formerly having been entrapped in the electronic form for too long.
Therefore, at this moment Breathing Sequence is yet in expansion, having a tendency of becoming an alliance of people with similar visions and aspirations as Nikola, with each and every of its potential members contributing to the breathing process, hence making its tune richer and more complex.
