About Me

What is Leisure Suite?
Leisure Suite is the collective efforts of DJs Jon Hershfield and Starskee Suave. It is the most fun you can have legally. Starskee spins the best in 70s funk, soul, r'n'b and disco, trading sets with Jon spinning your favorite 80s, oldskool hip hop and more. People drink and dance and drink and then dance some more, but with less coordination. If you're a person, and you like things, maybe you should check our calendar and show up. With your friends. And stuff.
It's the last Saturday of every month at Bar 107 downtown. And it's FREE.
Who?
Jon first transformed the musical byproduct of his obsessive Amoeba shopping into a dj arsenal at the musicians refuge known as The What Club. From there he became the resident dj of Unlit, a nomadic house party and band venue that featured some of the best of the LA music scene. Making a name for himself as the alternative to the cheesy pop dj, Jon has been known to spin a broad mix of acid jazz, indie rock, electronica, oldskool hip hop, and 80s new wave at parties and venues including Bar 107, Lava Lounge, M Bar, Mountain Bar, Good Hurt, I-Candy Lounge, The 3 Clubs and more. For the past year he has hosted "...IS GOOD" on killradio.org, a weekly radio show where he spins for an hour and then interviews an LA band for an hour ( IsGoodMusic.com ). Jon likes hard pretzels, ringer tees and that clanging sound they make on Law & Order whenever they arrive at a new location.
Starskee Suave is a Los Angeles area Disc Jockey who specializes in the golden, analog era of the 1970s. In fact, he thinks music from 1986 is "new." Starskee believes that the 1970s began in about 1967 and ended around 1983. Well, maybe 1984. He has 17 years of experience spinning vinyl Funk, Disco, Soul, and R 'n' B for radio, clubs, public events, and private parties. From 1989 to 2001, he hosted several shows on KXCI, 91.3 FM in Tucson, including nine years of the Tough Tulip Audio Revival. Since the late 1990s, he has hosted funky dance nights at various bars and nightclubs throughout the southwest. Although specializing in vinyl, Starskee boldly embraces 8-track technology, reel-to-reel, mp3, and compact discs. StarskeeSuave
