About Me

Birck’s aesthetics grew up from the understanding that the kind of music made by The Beatles (and others British Invasion groups) was part of a very specific context, and so the only manner to keep these influences was to use them in a different way. The solution was found whe he linked his musical references to modernist movements in visual arts (especially Dada and Cubism) and cartoons for television, conceiveing the elements of music as pieces of an architecture of sound, some kind of mosaich with movable parts. As a result, unusual sonorities emerges through re-contextualization of references. Putting apparently disconnected influences side by side, Birck proposes a continuous interaction between pop and avant-garde, with distinct styles composing a mobile of musical practices. In concert, live music performed by a band interacts with pre-recorded sounds. Band members: Marcelo Birck (vocals and guitar), Bruno Alcalde (backing vocals and guitar), Alexandre Birck (drums) and Moysés Lopes (bass and laptop computer). The concept is complemented with the projection of abstract animations painted directly on super-8 film (without the use of a camera). The movies were created by Birck himself, with great influence from artists like Norman McLaren and Stan Brakhage.
