Every so often a band forms that commands your respect and attention, every now and again a group of musicians forge a bond that sets an example to all others in their social demographic.
Liquid Optimism undoubtedly is the figure head of the Gippsland extreme music scene and has introduced an unprecedented level of respect, organization and success too thier home turf and now continue to broaden their horizons.
Originating from the town of Sale, the band first took shape in early 2006 from members that were raised on a healthy diet of progressive metal, extreme metal, hardcore and any good guitar driven alternative rock they could get their hands on. The boys then set about writing material and developing a uniquely ambient and emotive, yet confronting style of music, with a hint of warbling country boy angst.
2007 saw Liquid Optimism truly come into thier own. They recorded and released a four track demo titled ‘Opulence’ to wide spread acclaim within in the heavy music underground in the Gippsland region of Victoria. They also took it upon themselves to organize their own ‘Beyond the Gates of Hell’ tour, spanning all the suburbs in the region, including overage and underage dates, a handful of small festivals with plenty of local acts in support, as well as showcasing some of Melbourne’s best established and up and coming heavy bands.
The following year in 2008 with their ‘Gippsland Godfathers’ status firmly established, the Liquid lads recorded and released their debut album ‘The War of I’ with impressive ratings and reviews on Triple J’s Unearthed. Without wasting any initiative and with the added help of a now more organized an experienced local scene. Liquid Optimism once again organized their own festivals and tour dates, which now included shows in the cities of Melbourne as well as dates in Adelaide and Canberra.
Now in 2009, Liquid Optimism have a secured an impressive reputation for their professionalism, initiative and outstanding live performances. This year will also see them release their second album ‘The Last Stand’. The forth coming release will showcase the true potential of the band and see them go on to larger and more recognized stages in their home and interstate.
Ultimately, Liquid Optimism is about passion in its most pure form, they’ll shock you, make you smile, provoke your thoughts and leave you a gasp all at the same time. They’ll continue to do what they do and get better at it. ‘The Last Stand’ is coming, what side of the line are you standing on….
