Free Breathing Ensemble

About Me

Free Breathing Ensemble is a ten-piece multi horn ensemble founded by Belgian bassplayer Martijn Vanbuel. At first Martijn's intension was to retake some of Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra arrangements and interpret, but more and more he got into writing and arranging his own material. Later influences are Kenny Wheeler, Gil Evans, Maria Schnieder, Dave Holland Big Band. For now the Free Breathing Ensemble has a full Belgian line-up but meanwhile Martijn has moved to Taipei and is trying to play FBE music with locals. Just as in the first beginning of FBE, when the line up consisted of a mix of musicians of the Paris scene and the Belgian scene, still now the eventual porpuse of FBE is to gatter musicians from different countries and backgrounds to play the music.Create or get your
