Check out this Nycole Valentina video:Some people are destined for greatness. They set their sights on a goal and they don’t allow anyone or anything to deter them from their journey. Nycole Valentina is one of those people.
The 18-year-old singer/songwriter latched onto her dream at an early age. Unable to ignore the insatiable love of music coursing through her veins, she sought one opportunity after another, hoping to land in the right place at the right time. Eventually, she did just that.
A native of Hattiesburg Mississippi and raised in Miami, Florida, Nycole was singing before she could tie her shoelaces. “I remember being about four years old at Disney World,” she says, “and walking straight up to Mickey Mouse and singing ‘It's my party, I'll cry if I want to’."
Some seven years later Nycole would find herself working professionally, mostly recording demos for Roy Jones’ Bodyhead Entertainment. “I would sit in my room and sing and dance around as if I was on stage,” she recalls. “Finally someone heard me sing and sent me to record a song at Bodyhead Entertainment. I’ve been addicted ever since.”
Even though Nycole enjoyed her work at Bodyhead, she says it afforded her little creativity. But all that changed when she hooked up with GRAMMY-winning producers Shannon Sanders and Drew Ramsey (India.Arie, Heather Headley) whom she met while recording a hook for Nashville rapper Haystak. When the duo expressed an interest in working with her, she was ecstatic and made the drive to Nashville every couple of weeks to record with them. “ I was finally starting to write my own music,” she says. “I became part of the creative process and once I did, the music that I was doing became more personal, more real to me.”
Today Nycole seems to have hit her stride as an artist, as evidenced by the more than thirteen million hits to her Myspace page. On her debut CD, “She Wants Revenge,” Nycole’s powerful vocals soar over high energy tracks to create a sound that is fun, contemporary and irresistible. “I love to dance,” she says, “so my music definitely has to show that. As far as writing goes, I've always wanted to speak to people through music the way music speaks to me.”
Stressing that she wants to create her own musical lane, Nycole says it’s crucial for her to have a hand in creating the concepts for her music. “It's very important for me to be in the creative process, mostly because that’s a huge passion of mine but also because it makes my music more pure. When you hear most of my music, you'll know that I truly felt that way at some point. It's a release of emotion for me.”
Nycole says the songs on “She Wants Revenge” share a common theme. “The whole CD revolves around the thought of having your heart broken and what happens in the aftermath,” she explains. “There's always stages you go through and revenge is one of them.”
Among Nycole’s favorites on the set are "Heart Beat” (Armando Colon); “Revenge” (Focus); and “So Much Better” (Colon). She explains, “’Heart Beat’ is about a thief who stole my heart and he's on the run from the police so we can't be together. But no matter where he goes, I can hear his heart beat and I'll be fighting for him.” "Revenge” is self-explanatory while "So Much Better" is about being patient in a relationship. “It’s all about holding off and not rushing things,” she says. “It’s about taking your time and truly appreciating the other person before you move too fast.”
“She Wants Revenge,” which is mostly written by Nycole, includes additional production by Travon Potts, The Insomniax, and Beat Boxers.
With an ever growing fan base in the United States and abroad and a new deal with Launchcode/Ether Management -- a joint venture between Grammy Nominated Producer Armando Colon and industry executive John “J.P.” Pegram -- Nycole says she wants to continue to make uplifting, feel good music for the masses. “I just want to make great songs and work hard to be better everyday,” she says. “I want to push myself to the breaking point, get comfortable there and then push again. My passion for music is so strong, it's impossible to stop.”
