About Me

Born and raised in Ontario Cindy had rural beginnings in a musical family. Both parents were piano teachers and Cindy and her sisters received classical training in violin, cello, and piano at a young age. At 13 Cindy bought herself a guitar and started to write songs. She picked up the bass along the way and was a founding member of the all-girl band Tin Angel (The IUDs) in Toronto who went on to be signed to Atlantic Records in New York with producer Jack Douglas. The self-titled album was released world-wide and received airplay all over the planet. Since then, Cindy has been making music from Miami to New York to southern Ontario on her own and with various bands. She has put out three independent CDs with The Baladins, Janes Street (Women at Work), and the Blue Rubies (Home Ground). Heart of this House is her first and only solo CD and contains songs written by Cindy and songwriter accomplices Duane Rutter, Ian Ross, and Paul Riemens. With honesty and straight-forward emotion, she delivers songs that are personal, yet universal. Heart of this House was recorded at Northshore Studios with Brent Whitton. It was mixed by Dave Barber.Discography:Tin Angel - Tin Angel (Atlantic Records 1982).The Baladins - The Baladins (Indie 1995).J.P. Influences: My family has influenced and inspired me more than anyone: my parents, Victor and Mary Dell, who taught me to play and instilled a love of music when I was young, my son Matthew Woolley who is an amazing closet guitarist/singer/music lover, budding songwriter and graphic designer, my sister Lori who is multi-talented (http://www.loridell.com/loridell.com/) and with whom I wrote many a song back before I would play in front of anyone. In more recent years I have been hugely influenced and inspired by my most amazing songwriting/musician friends like Duane Rutter, Ian Ross, Suzie Sweetman, Ron Brammall, J. P. Riemens, Alfie Smith, Steve Hogg, Kim Berry, Judi Rideout, Jen Ryckman, Johnny Frame, Keith Shaw, Fred Eaglesmith, Worm, Dan Walsh, Christi Elliott, Karen Atta, etc etc. I have loved, listened to, and have looked up to other artists of course, especially Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Shawn Colvin, Chrissie Hynde, Jann Arden, Stacey Earle, Gillian Welch, Neil Young, Sue Foley, all blues, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zepplin, Carly Simon, John Prine, the list goes on and on.
