About Me

This southern boogie band from Nashville, Tennessee, USA, have drawn inevitable comparisons to Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers Band. The band was formed at the start of the 90s by Mike Farris (vocals), Rick White (guitar), Bob Watkins (guitar), Steve Burgess (bass) and Terry Thomas (drums). A spell as the house band in a local blues club near Vanderbilt University followed, before they signed a major label deal with Atlantic Records. Their 1993 debut was recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, with producer Paul Ebersold. Predominantly a hard boogie set along the lines of the self-explanatory "Shakin' The Blues", the album also included the impressive southern pride song, "Moses Brown". The following year the band joined the HORDE festival (Horizons Of Rock Developing Everywhere), a roots-orientated package tour founded by Blues Traveler and Widespread Panic in 1992 as an antidote to Lollapalooza. The band's second album was produced by Michael Barbiero, and introduced a more eclectic style that belied their bar room origins. They moved to Capricorn Records for Big Wheel, which saw them reunited with Ebersold. Their most impressive set to date, the album included several affecting low-key country blues numbers ("It Ain't Nothing" and "Dragon Park") alongside crowd pleasers such as "More Than I Can Take" and "Boogie King". The latter was included on The Bride Of Chucky soundtrack.Earlier this year, Wheelies frontman Mike Farris decided to take a step away from the music industry saying he would not sing for the Wheelies or any other band at this time. Mike released a solo album about 3 years ago entitled "Goodnight Sun." This year the band released their last recordings at least for now on their EP entitled "Ten Miles High." The EP has 4 songs on it.
