About Me

I was thinking this morning . . . "odd" stories often follow me, and many times, no, most of the time, they are stories of folks who have passed on. It's not just that folks might interest me, so I start looking into their past. No, many of these stories find me -- via old photos in antique shops, or documents, or street signs with odd names. Me? I can't resist when I come across these innocuous nudges. That's when I start digging and it never fails . . . oh, are there stories to tell!!

My 5th book, RELUCTANT WITNESS: ROBERT TAYLOR, HOLLYWOOD, & COMMUNISM, the bio of Golden Era movie star, Robert Taylor, is on the market . . . the culmination of a FIFTEEN year project! Buy it -- oh yes, please do! -- by order thru your local bookstore, or online. I suggest the following:

Taylor's son, Terry, said in the Foreword:
"On one hand, he would be embarrassed that a book of this caliber be devoted to telling his life story. On the other hand, he would be grateful that so much of the nonsense about a no-nonsense man has finally been revealed and honestly addressed by author, Linda Alexander. . . . My sincere thanks to Linda Alexander who dug deep and spread wide her copious research and leaps of literary faith, that reveal stunningly an untold story."
My "official" bio: Multi-cultural author Linda Alexander has lupus. Her other 4 books—one about an adult film star ("Dorothy From Kansas Meets the Wizard of X"), another about Messianic Jews ("The Unpromised Land"), and novels of dark romantic suspense ("Until Next Time" & "Weekends in New England").
A 1991 letter on psychological child abuse put Linda on the Oprah Show. For over 20 years, she’s freelanced for magazines such as Soap Opera Update, and newspapers including The Washington Times and Baton Rouge Advocate. Interviews include actors Jim Varney, Robert Stack, Michael Zaslow, and her teenage heartthrob, Michael Cole, from 1970s “The Mod Squad;” also, singers Gary Puckett, Tiny Tim, and others. Tiny Tim commented: "Thank you, Miss Linda. You are such a good listener." An editor from a prominent publisher said, “I felt . . . I was sitting in on a Barbara Walters interview.”
Linda’s newest book, Reluctant Witness: Robert Taylor, Hollywood, & Communism, is a biography on Hollywood’s Golden Era movie star, Robert Taylor. Taylor starred in "Camille" with Greta Garbo, "Waterloo Bridge" with Vivien Leigh, and "Quo Vadis" with Deborah Kerr. His involvement in the 1940s hysteria over communism in Hollywood forever wrongly branded him the ultra-conservative movie star to “name names.” Linda intends to right that wrong.
Linda speaks publicly on: Living Large With Lupus; Journaling To Heal Wounds; Bridging The Color Line; You Are Who You Say You Are: Online Imaging; and, of course, writing!

I will be speaking to the Hollywood Congress of Republicans on October 7, 2009, topic:Reluctant Witness: Robert Taylor, Hollywood, & Communism - Blacklisting, Then & Now

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Those from a world before me:

. . . ROBERT TAYLOR: Hollywood heartthrob from the Golden Era: ooh, wouldn't THAT be amazing?!

. . . JACK KELLY: "The other Maverick" from the TV show of the same name. Jack is the subject of my next book -- an intriguing man.

. . . CHARLOTTE BEHRENS: Victorian stage star. There's a book in this one, a lady called "The anti-Victorian Victorian actress," & whose life would qualify her as the Elizabeth Taylor of her era.

. . . ALLECIA DESSESSARTS ROWE, my great-great grandmother, and her mother, my great-great-great grandmother, MELITE GRADENIGO. of a rich mixed heritage -- black, white, French, Spanish -- these ladies lived in a time in US history when being black of any fashion was considered, frankly, a crime.

. . . JOHN LUNDBERG, my great-grandfather. He immigrated from Sweden, moved to South Dakota, picked up an axe, & started mining gold. Not many years later, he owned his own gold mine (still in operation today), became a millionaire -- and never worked another day in his life.

From today's world:

Sadly, politicians tend to disappoint me by virtue of being politicians. I think I might like to chat with MIKE HUCKABEE. I like his personality.

. . . religious figures: BILLY GRAHAM & THE DALAI LAMA. Together, even.

Obscure actors:

. . . JOHN MARTINUZZI aka JOHN MORRISSEY. Years ago he was on "General Hospital," & soon after disappeared from the face of the earth. I've remembered him ever since. Oooh, he was a great bad guy! . . . READ MY BLOG!

. . . MICHAEL SARRAZIN. If you've not seen, "The Reincarnation of Peter Proud," find it!

. . . PAUL ROSSILLI. Another great soap baddie. No credits listed on his IMDB beyond about 1992. So sad.

From the world to be:

. . . my new GRANDCHILDREN (2 granddaughters now & another grandkid on the way)

ALL the friends I've yet to know I have -- maybe YOU?!
