I am here for Friends

About Me

Yes, I finally succumbed to MySpace at the request of my fellow rollergirls. So I made this tasty little page, but let me make the following disclaimers for those who don't know me:
If I don't know you from Adam, then chances are I don't want to join your MySpace sex webcam group. Wet blanket, I know.
I'm old, married, snarky, and I hate netspeak.
I don't text message and I rarely IM. Hell, you're lucky if you can get me return an e-mail within 48 hours.
If you're expecting my page to be derby 24-7, think again. There's more to me than that.

Mmmmm...what else to say? If it's tacky, I love it...hence, the handle "Kitschywoman." If you don't know what kitsch is, get thee to Dictionary.com, as you're living a bland, sad life. I've also added a new alias..."Roseanne Scarr," which is my derby name. Grrrrr. Fear me, baby. ;P

In memory of Robin and Brian, my husband's crew members. CTFD is not the same without you.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

People who enjoy embracing their oddities, regardless of the opinions of others. People who can pack up their egos and make fun of themselves. Team players. Animal lovers. The child-free (as long as they're not also child-haters). And, of course, rollergirls.

My Blog

What makes a successful (derby) team

OK, I never used to be a huge fan of team-building and leadership studies and all the assorted B.S. that goes along with them.  Business school pretty much stomped all that out of me.  But m...

On the subject of personal preference...

One man's Purgatory is another man's Paradise. In other words...not everyone wants the same things out of life.  If we did, the world would be a bland, homogeneous mess. So enjoy life your w...

Cutting the ties that bind

Maybe I should have done this a long time ago.  It wouldn't have been so disappointing that way.  But what I saw on Saturday opened my eyes. If you're not part of the solution, you're part o...

To the Pro-Lifer...

...who was holding vigil for all the unborn "babies" outside my local women's services center today: Why don't you hold a vigil for the two-year-old girl who was run over in the parking lot of her apa...

Rollergirl Haka

Check out New Zealand's All Blacks rugby team performing their traditional pre-game haka (a traditional Maori war dance for the uninitated) vs. Tonga's rugby team (who evidently has a war dance o...

Tiki Rollergirl

So, two of my favorite subjects are roller derby and tiki culture.  Usually the two are never combined.  (Unless I happen to stumble upon the ORG booth at the Hot Rod Hula Hop.) Now I finall...

A quick tour of the Casa de Kitsch

OK, so some of you may be wondering why I go by the handle "kitschywoman" instead of using my skate name like my fellow rollergirls.  Well, that stems from the fact that my house looks like this:...

Another successful luau

Well, it looks like I've been MySpacing for a year now because I believe my first post was about last year's annual luau.  One year later, we've pulled it off yet again.  Each year, we try t...

So, Kitschy, what's up with this whole doll collecting business?

OK, OK...it's a well-known fact among many of my friends and co-workers that I collect dolls.  And that I'm rapidly approaching the "batshit insane lady who gardens in her bathrobe and owns 70 ca...
