About Me

Michael Dwayne Vick was born on June 26, 1980, in the town of Newport news, Virginia. In his early teens he became a bit of a problem to his parents and teachers in regard to discipline, so his mother urged him to get involved in an after-school activity to keep out of trouble. Michael decided that football would be the way to go.In high school, the speedy Vick began developing his style of play as a quarterback. Coached by a former running back, he quickly developed the keen ability to move around in the pocket and scramble when necessary, making him a dangerous threat. Not only was he a prolific passer, throwing for nearly 5,000 yards with 43 touchdowns, but Vick could also run the ball extremely well, scoring 18 touchdowns and gaining over 1,000 yards on the ground. After graduation and courtships by numerous college scouts and coaches, Vick settled on furthering his education at Virginia Tech and began school there in 1998. As a rookie he passed for over 1800 yards with 12 touchdowns and scored eight times on the ground, racking up over 500 yards. His ability and his numbers garnered him the inaugural collegiate MVP award, and he finished an amazing third place in the running for the Heisman Trophy--an astounding feat for a freshman. In 2000, as a sophomore, his numbers dipped but were still good enough for scouts to speculate that he would be a top five pick in the NFL. Upon realizing this, in 2001 Vick decided he would forego school and enter the draft. The Atlanta Falcons, after trading wide receiver Tim Dwight (along with future draft picks) to the San Diego Chargers for the number-one pick that year, landed Vick, looking to make him their future quarterback. His career in the NFL got off to a good start. He spent his first season on the sideline as the backup to Chris Chandler. He studied the game at the pro level, occasionally filling in when Chandler was injured. The following season Vick's goal at training camp was to impress coaches and land the starting quarterback role, which he did. He led the Falcons to a 9-6-1 finish in 2002, throwing for over 3,000 yards and running for nearly 800, scoring 24 touchdowns. The team made the playoffs as a Wild Card and defeated Green Bay in the first round, handing the Packers their first ever playoff loss on their home field. The next round they weren't as fortunate, losing the Divisional Playoff to the Philadelphia Eagles. With playoff experience and Vick at the helm, the Falcons looked like a bona fide contender for the Super Bowl. However, the "Madden Curse" would end their hopes early. After being chosen to grace the cover of the latest edition of the popular video game "John Madden Football" by publisher EA Sports, Vick became another cover athlete to fall by the wayside. In a preseason game he broke his right leg and missed nearly the entire 2003 season; the team finished with a 5-11 record. In 2004, Vick had another great year. Despite throwing 12 interceptions, he passed for 2313 yards and 14 touchdowns; and the team did most of its damage on the ground, as Vick rushed for 902 yards and scored three touchdowns. The team finished with an 11-5 record but fell short of the prize as they lost the NFC Championship game to the Philadelphia Eagles, 27-10. The team hopes to rebound in 2006-2007, but early injuries, including a sprained right knee, limited Vick's playing time. MyGen Profile Generator
