The Pattern Theory

About Me

contact/booking: [email protected]
The Pattern Theory were originally founded in Leeds, England in 2006 by Carl Schilde, Lukas Creswell-Rost and James Yates. After the release of our first EP, "EP1", we set out on a nationwide UK tour in September 2007. Tracks from this EP have been played on BBC's Radio One and on stations in the USA, Australia and Germany. This has led us to higher-scale gigs, such as playing together with Damo Suzuki (Can) and supporting American bands such as The Drift and Icy Demons in Germany. James also plays drums in The Declining Winter (ex-Hood). Carl also plays with Andrew McInnis (Asva/Lemons&Stallions). Recently, We have all relocated to Berlin, Germany, where we are currently recording our debut album. If you are a record label interested in releasing it or if you book shows, please get in touch!
EP1 (released Sep.2007). You can buy it:
at Norman Records . (UK/EU)
at Friends of Mine Records Distribution . (JP)

Live Reviews
Not our words, the words of.....

"...very promising...like Yo La Tengo in mellow mode doing an Ali Farka Toure tribute." THE GUARDIAN

"(the pattern theory)... interweave individual threads of guitar, bass and drums which fit together into something that's part melody, part algorhythm....like Battles, but much more organic." MANCHESTERMUSIC.CO.UK

"With elements of post, math and even dance-tinged rock in their repertoire, this band are definitely walking the walk outside of the regulation box." DROWNED IN SOUND

"Their music is just the kind of 'experimental' music that you always hope for - ambient and atypical, but still tuneful and very listenable." LEEDS MUSIC SCENE

'EP 1' Reviews
"From the stunning promise evident on every track, it seems like a rather invincible EP." (10/10) LEEDS MUSIC SCENE
"Every once in awhile having this music review job pays off in epic spades and listening to The Pattern Theory is one such case... look for great things from these guys in the near future." (A-) EXODUSTER
"Minimalist cool, ringing with optimism and counterpoint. I must have played it a dozen times and I'm still getting little bursts of pleasure."(8/10) WHISPERIN AND HOLLERIN
"The Pattern Theory have made a distinguished attempt at doing things differently. Pretty exceptional stuff." MANCHESTERMUSIC.CO.UK
