OPIA......."The Story"In a land far far away (Perth Western Australia) In late 2005 the formation of OPIA began ! Mike Bok having played in numerous other band..s over the year..s had idea and was on the search for two more member..s. Soon after the search started there was a list of about eight bass player..s to audition and sure enough last but not least Mike William..s had joined the line up,after month..s of searching for the write band Williams..s search was finally over ! The first sit down jam saw the two write the instrumental "Pulmenary"which when listened to is a perfect example of the way Bok and William..s work together so well.The search for a drummer began,first person Bok had in mind was long term friend Ryan Monger,the two had talked about starting something on numerous ocasion..s over the year..s and now seemed like the perfect time !! shure enough the two bumped into each other at a local show day..s later and it was all confirmed.....Bok,William..s and Monger together with instrument..s in hand were now "OPIA"The name Opia was derived from and refers to the condition myopia (short sightedness) and is used as a metaphor suggesting people need to open their eyes to look beyond their conditioning. Opias music carries a message about looking beyond what has become the norm and questions the status quo. Influenced by a huge number of group..s the guy..s produce a unique Australian sound which is best described as progresive/alternative.Achievement..s to date have seen the band play a healthy amount of local and interstate suport..s,a good bunch of headlining show..s,a debut EP launch for the EP titled "Everydaysagain" available in selected store..s. Opia has been attracting some very positive interest..s over the past few month..s and the future for the guy..s is looking good with plan..s of an interstate tour soon to be organized,then to be followed by a single release,the next step will see the band head into the studio to record there debut album pre-production to be followed by the band..s album which in the scheme of thing..s ain..t that far away !!So keep your eye..s and ear..s open to make a show so..s you can make your own mind up !!
