She's not your average girl; growing up with a California native mother and a dad born and raised from the west indian island of Dominica (not to be confused with the Dominican Republic), this up and coming singer/songwriter, Marisa Lander, comes from a world of different cultures. This blend of the two parents has molded her to develop a unique sense of life, while being exposed to different lifestyles, which shines in her own personality.
Since she was a child, there was something about Marisa that people could see. She was a star from birth. She had an appeal that commanded everyone's attention and drew their likings to her. Not only does she have a appealing presence, but she has had this outstanding voice. "As a child, she would cry to a tune," her mother says. She would walk around the house singing to anything and everything.
Born in maryland, Marisa was the "uh-oh" baby. An "uh-oh" baby that came along and stole the show. She and her family moved to Aurora, IL when she was about 2 years old. It was a small quiet neighborhood where she spent most of her time out and about with her brother and sister and the neighborhood kids. They'd play outside with not much cares in the world. While in Aurora, her dad got his first video camera. It soon went from "dad's camera" to her 8 year old brothers camera, as he took it over and would get together with Marisa and her sister and make videos. They'd make videos of them singing, dancing, acting, everything. As long as Marisa was entertaining, she felt like she was at home.
At 7 years old, Marisa's family packed up everything and headed to Texas in a small town called Frisco. Arriving at a new school as a first grader, Marisa stood out as more than just the "new girl" but as the "tall girl". Being just 7, she was as tall as some of the 5th graders, so she couldnt help but stand out. As years went on, Marisa stayed in Frisco, still attracting stares and turning heads. This time, not for her height, but for her talents. From sports to writing, and web design to acting, many people saw Marisa as someone who could fit the mold of many different areas. Although she had many talents, one was her passion.
Growing up listening to artists such as Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Aretha Frank, music has been a big influence in Marisa's life, and her biggest passion. She knew from a very young age after seeing a performance on TV of Mariah Carey that it was what she wanted to do. She didn't want to be mediocre, she wanted to be a legend and a vocalist like Mariah, Whitney and Aretha. She wanted to mix the styles of a powerful, soulful voice like the 3 mentioned above with the pop, trendy, and urban styles of artists like Paula DeAnda, Kat Deluna, and Kristinia Debarge.
At 18 years old, Marisa just graduated from High School and is ready to start a new chapter in her life. With college at her hands, she's also working on her music. Shes penning and recording many original songs and also having fun writing remixes to current hits out now. Marisa's name may not be in the limelights now, but she soon will be a household name.
