Teague was born in Atlanta and grew up in the South, spending his summers on his grandparents' farm in South Georgia. He began playing the piano and writing songs at the age of 12 with musical influences including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Willie Nelson, Paul Simon, Phil Collins, Elton John, and the Eagles. He credits Frank Sinatra and Harry Connick, Jr. as his greatest vocal influences.
