"I've always felt that if I do it on my own, I'll have no one to thank or blame but myself."
With the upcoming debut e.p. release 'Songs For Yesterday', Hodgins feels he's made the right move.
Born in Vancouver, B.C. and raised in Abbotsford, songwriter Leonard Hodgins has been around music his whole life. Playing drums, guitar, piano, and probably being conceived to Supertramp has been a huge factor on deciding what he'd dream to pursue. Other musical influences include a variety of artists including Jeff Buckley, Coldplay, Pink Floyd, and Alan Parsons.
"One of my biggest influences is singer Kevin McInnes. We've worked in the past in our previous band 'Lucid', but we eventually moved apart due to restrictions. His ongoing support with my music has been most gratifying and helpful. It's hard to imagine what my music would be like without him. I know he won't always be here to back me up and I'll have to move on, but at the moment I'm enjoying what I have."
And what's not to enjoy? The five track e.p. 'Songs For Yesterday' is an extremely intimate record that scratches the surface on his personal experiences and world issue beliefs. It focuses on his three inspirational D's : Dreams, Desire, and Disaster. The record is melodic - an acoustic driven ensemble with a fresh bite of electricity, providing original flavor to the generic modern rock world of the new millennium.
The e.p. was recorded and mixed in a span of 7 days at Greenhouse Studios in Burnaby, BC with producer Jason 'Juice' Evjen. Hodgins had worked with previous bands (Lucid, Stalemate) at Greenhouse in October 2000, and in May 2001 with Juice.
"At the moment I think I'm in a great position. I'm doing what I love and I know that I'll get back what I've put in. It can only get better from here."
