The Terry Whalen Band

About Me

2009 ECMA nomination for Blues Recording of the Year. The Terry Whalen Band is a band pounding out a diverse blend of roots, rock and blues. Terry's band has been described as the "hardest working band going", with the delivery of heartfelt vocals and a passion presented via catchy originals and a collection of timeless covers. Terry and the boys leave it all on the stage. The Terry Whalen Band is a new band for the 30+ music lover, of which there are many.

Terry Whalen has been developing his songwriting chops for over twenty-five years. During this time he has played with a wide array of musicians throughout New Brunswick, Canada. Terry has devoted time as a lead guitarist, bass player and playing harmonica, all with the purpose of finding new ways to express his musical passions. The Terry Whalen Band currently completed their 2nd CD; "The Devil's Fireplace". The CD includes music that hits a variety of styles, including Rock, Blues, and even a hint of country... no depression if you will. There is now a scippet of what is on the new CD. Hope you like it.
Terry continues his partnership with lyricist and bassist Stephen MacKnight and has since added drummer Jimmy Larsen. The trio has been lining up gigs to promote the 1st and now the 2nd CD as well. The growth as musicians and songwriters should be clearly evident on the new tracks.

Band Members: Terry Whalen - Lead vocals and Acoustic and Electric Guitars, Harmonica; Stephen MacKnight - Bass; Jimmy Larsen - Drums.
Influences: There are so many, and more being added everyday, especially since we have gained so many new and talanted friends here at MySpace. To start with there's Muddy Watters, Howlin" Wolf , Keb Mo', Steve Earle, Neil Young, Delbert McClinton, Jeff Beck, Emily Low Harris, Albert Collins, Warren Zevon, Charlie Sexton, Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton, Kenny Wayne Sheppard, Eric Johnston, Joe Perry, Buddy Guy, Edward Van Halen, Albert Collins (what a loss), and John Haitt. Webb Wilder has been playing a lot on our iPod lately (a great performer). To be honest we are always searching for tunes by cats who sing and play with passion and fire. The one and only Edward Van Halen got Terry goin' to begin with, many years ago but whoever the player, the music has got to move me.

I'll tell you one thing there are a lot of hot players and bands available for a listen on MySpace... Wow!!!

Right now we will listen to anything with a blues / soul / jazzy base to it.

We will end with this one comment, there is nothing that can compare to the female voice singin' the blues, jazz and R&B. The female voice is the perfect instrument. Women like Aretha Franklin, Koko Taylor, Elle Fitzgerald, Emmy Lou Harris and a whole lot of other great female voices which we have come across through MySpace. Check out some of our "Top Friends". MySpace has provided us the opportunity to be introduced to so many incredible singers. There is so much talant out there, please use every chance you can to find it!
Sounds Like: You tell us! Terry has been compared to David Wilcox and believe it or not Eric Clapton. We don't hear the latter but we really only want to sound like us. If we can sound original and upbeat and you can tap you toes to our songs we will be pleased. Wehave been trying to find our own sound for such a long time, God willing in the end we hope others will like it too! So far we have been getting some nice compliments. Go figure!
