HOW DO I LET GO

About Me

Introduced to turntablism and graffiti in the mid 80’s, Cyrus quickly fell in love with the dynamic forms of self-expression associated with the B-Boy culture. Open minded to the world and it’s diversity, Cyrus ventured to his first underground party at the tender age of 15. Unfortunately the year was 1992 and Los Angeles was struggling with its second wave of civil unrest in 40 years. That Summer the Watts Riots erupted and the underground flat-lined under LA's Marshall Law and curfews. With the rebirth of the underground in 1994, Cyrus spent most of his weekends with close friend and LA's favorite DJ Jason Blakemore. Although still in High School, Cyrus quickly embraced the DJ culture especially collecting records. Soon his hobby became a passion and in 1997 he bought his first pair of 1200’s. In 1998, best friend Amir from Seasons Recordings asked Cyrus to play at his party “Soul Shakedown". That night changed his life; Aquarium Events, a production company that had produced amazing parties since 1996 and B3 another production company that had just began to throw great parties both asked him to become a resident DJ. Without hesitation he agreed to both and the rest has been history! Aquarium Events threw many parties including Animania, Midnight Sun and Aquarium. Within a few months of becoming their resident, Cyrus also took on the role of artist coordinator and was trusted to bring in a special variety of artists to keep the parties fresh. Some of the most memorable guests include The Orb, Halo, Qbert, Tony Humphries, Phife, Terry Francis, The Black Eye Peas, Onionz, Kool Keith, Mark Grant, DJ Sneak And Doc Martin. In December of 2000, 11,000 people attended the Animania 5 year anniversary and fair-well party. 2008 marks the 10 Year Anniversary of Cyrus' residency with B3 where he has played at almost every one of their parties including the legendary How Sweet It Is and JuJuBeats. Durring his ongoing residency, Cyrus has played alongside legendary artists such as The Advent, Gene Farris, Shaboom, Basement Jaxx, Mark Farina, Roger Sanchez, Richie Hawtin and Derrick Carter. Some of the B3 parties were the biggest in the world reaching over 35,000 people in attendance. Over the years Cyrus has been blessed to play at many great parties such as Steve Loria’s “Bang the Drum”, San Francisco’s, “Funky Tekno Tribe” and most recently Doc Martin’s, “Sublevel”. He has also been working with Halo in the last couple years on the," City Deep Roof Top Sessions" in Miami at the WMC. Now, after taking some time to sort out returning to school @ UCI, Cyrus has decided to join forces with Doc Martin and Lillia on their Sublevel parties to bring Los Angeles amazing DJ’s and parties once again.
