In 1987, fifteen diverse young men at California State University, Chico, saw a need for a student organization that would provide a supportive atmosphere for themselves and other Latinos to succeed in higher education, something they felt was missing from the existing student organizations. Further, these gentlemen also felt they held a responsibility to help out those less fortunate than themselves. Recognizing the importance of brotherhood as the mechanism for support and key to achieving their individual and collective goals, they decided to form a new fraternity based on three principles: Academic Excellence, Community Service and Maintenance of the Latino Culture. Hence on December 3, 1987 at California State University, Chico, Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was born.

The Theta Chapter at the University of California at Davis was established on January 15th of 2000 by seven young Latino men who felt the need to create and organize a machine that promoted higher learning for all Latinos by focusing on their retention level at the University level and by helping them to excel in today's competitive society. These founders labored to create an organization that would serve as an active force within the University of California at Davis. Already our presence has been felt on this campus through our community service projects, fundraisers, and socials. The Theta Chapter is quickly becoming a legitimate entity in all social atmospheres and diversification experiences. In the future, we hope to become a leader in organizational and diverse interaction on this campus by opening new doors and opportunities for students of all communities here at Davis.
