Born and raised in various parts of Brooklyn, Bed-Stuy is where Mic Black A.K.A. Lingo lays his head. Mic Black grew to understand who he is and how words can affect people's lives around the world. "In life, without growth there is no change" and with that understanding Mic Black dipped and dabbled in different flows and different styles, trying to find himself as an MC. Through an after-school music class he attended in Bushwick Community High School called "Creative Liberation"; a class designed to help youth express themselves through different forms of art, Lingo found himself in a position of determining the images and messages he wanted to put out in his music.“Bushwick changed my lifeâ€. Bushwick community high school was a new beginning. Being that Bushwick had a curriculum based around African and latino history, Mic Black started to see things from a broader perspective. Within the after-school music class Lingo links up with to other emcees by the names of Dee and Dayz to form a three man group called the Griots. With the Griots Lingo traveled to different states and colleges to perform, from opening up for The Last Poets at Pen-State University to performing at Wilmington College. â€This is Liberation Friday every other Friday food4thought café corner Marcus Garvey†was the signature venue every other Friday where the Griots sheared their music with the masses. As time went along Mic Black felt that it was time for him to do his own thing, to tell his story. With a new vision, new person, and a new understanding, Mic Black found his purpose in music and what he’s trying to do with it. Mic Black Feels that his music need to describe who and what he’s about. “I try to shear a lot of my life struggles in my music, as much as possible because I want people to hear my music and use it to help them get through their own strugglesâ€. Through an old high school friend Mic Black connected with Ajis which later became his engineer and producer. Together they formed a team called B.Q.E. (Brooklyn, Queens Enterprises).Teaming up with Ajis they plan to build awareness around the world through music. The first day Ajis and Lingo started to work together in the studio, you would have thought these two have been working together for years. Through their musical chemistry A track called “Guided by Loveâ€, which is a single off of Lingo’s up and coming album “Double Personality†dropping July 4th.has been causing static amongst listeners. Leaving a great anticipation for the album to drop.. “I used to write rhymes to escape but nowadays every time I write it seems like fake is my fate, because freedom of emotions is something they don't understand and can't cope with. My actions are exact now I’m forced to rap in this state of hip hop you can't be yourself you're forced to adapt. I'm trapped in this trap, music was my escape but, that became a trap to keep me trapped." With a breathy sound, poetic word play, and a spoken-word flow he captures the ears of the youth and elders, bridging the gap between past and present. Connecting to the community is very important for Lingo “My creativity comes more so from the struggle†During the black power movement in the 60’s music played a key element in bringing the people together from the churches to the streets. Music made the people feel alive no matter what. With that understanding Lingo intends to create life in his music bringing back meaning and purpose.Header Banner Made with MyBannerMaker.com!
