I was born in Pacific Grove and grew up on Pacific St. in a Victorian built in 1883. I have 3 sisters and 1 brother. We had a lot of fun parties. The surfing infuences came from my brothers collection of boards like David Neihwavas that I used to paddle at Lovers Point when I was about 5. There were also balsa wood shapes and numerous shapes of my brothers with his distinct pen and ink with aboalone inlay art. I used to bathe upstairs in an old clawfoot and standing in the corner next to the bath was the fiberglass skin of one of my brothers boards that he tore off. With it came the art work, a sun with the rays like the flowing hair of a women, from the nose to the tail. I shaped my first board when I was 12 in my 2nd floor bedroom.
