Tommy J. Haglund - Composer

About Me

He's a composer of contemporary jazz music, mostly for Big Bands. In 2006 he graduated, as the first student ever in the Jazz/Afro-American tradition, from the Postgraduate Composition Diploma program at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. His diploma concert "Trimester for Big Band" was performed by the Stockholm Jazz Orchestra at Nalen and broadcast live on Swedish Radio. Tommy's main teacher during the seven years at the Royal College was professor Örjan Fahlström. He has also participated in masterclasses with Maria Schneider, Jim McNeely, Michael Gibbs and Mario Davidovsky. In 2004 Tommy competed in Jazzverk and won first prize with the tune "The Seven Seas". He has made orchestrations for the London Symphony Orchestra (Laleh's song "Snow" made for the movie "Arn"), the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Malmö Symphony Orchestra (music composed by the Swedish film music composer Adam Nordén). In December 2006 Tommy received a scholarship from SKAP (The Swedish Society of Popular Music Composers) for "meritoriously efforts in the sector of popular music".
