I'm the ex-bass player of Gone Til Winter, a melodic metal band based in Manchester, UK. I'm also one of 6.5 billion human beings that populate the planet earth. As well as human beings, there are countless other species of animal that also inhabit the planet. I say countless because it is near impossible to determine the exact figure....clever human beings, known as scientists (or 'smart arses' if you are a less clever human being), have determined that there are 20,000 species of fish, 6,000 reptiles, 9,000 birds, 1,000 amphibians, 15,000 mammals and 1,000,000 insects with a possible 1,000,000 more insects that have yet to be designated. Take into account the myriad of micro-organism life forms and the total number of different animal species on earth could be between 13 to 14 million. That's a lot of animal. It appears that humans are notably different than all of the other animal species on earth, primarily due to the evolution of a large and complex brain that has unparalleled cognitive functionality (we also have opposable thumbs which is supposed to be a big deal in the animal world...although why this would make a dolphin feel inferior is beyond me).It is interesting to note that human beings generally use their significantly heightend intelligence to destroy themselves, other species of animals and the fabric of the planet itself. When, inevitably, another one of the Universes sentient species decides to research and document a complete history of the planet earth, human beings will appear as a footnote which will read something like this: "...and then these really clever monkeys appeared, multiplied like rabbits (another one of earth's animal species that had rather a large and sustained fondness for procreation), and then, in a relatively short space of time, screwed everything up for the whole planet for a bit and then blew themselves up....the stupid bastards".
