A Canorous Quintet was formed in 1991, as “A Canorous Quartetâ€. The initial line-up consisted of Fredrik Andersson - Guitars, MÃ¥rten Hansen - Vocals, Mattias Puttonen – Drums and Linus Petterson – Bass. When the band changed name to A Canorous Quintet in 1993 they had made some drastic changes in the line-up, Fredrik was now handling the drums and with the addition of two new members; Linus Nirbrant and Matthias Ehlin on guitars.
During the second half of 1993 the band recorded their first demo “The Time Of Autumn†on a 8-track portable studio in the rehearsal room. The demo was made into 100 copies and quickly sold out in the growing underground metal scene of Stockholm.
The band started to play live frequently and soon became a renowned live act, playing with bands such as Edge of sanity, Disharmonic orchestra, At the gates, Katatonia and Hypocrisy amongst others. In 1994 they recorded a promo tape which was sent to a couple of Swedish record labels but didn’t land them a deal. At this time the line-up was changed once more as Matthias Ehlin left the band to start up his own project “Siebenburgenâ€. Jesper Löfgren was introduced to the band as their new bass player. Linus Petterson switched to guitar but it didn’t take long until he also left the band and the search for a new guitarist was a fact. Luckily the search was not in vain for with the addition of Leo Pignon on guitars the line up was finally completed and solid.
A second demo was recorded and this time the band entered the famous Unisound studio (Dan Swanö). It immediately landed the band a deal with No fashion Records who released it as a Mini-cd on the sub-label “Chaos Recordsâ€.
In December 1995 A Canorous Quintet entered Abyss studio (Peter Tägtgren) to record their first full length album “Silence of the world beyondâ€. The album was a huge success and showed the world that the band was to be counted on within the new wave of Swedish melodic death metal.
The band kept on playing at numerous gigs around Scandinavia with acts such as Dissection, Amon Amarth, Dawn and Necrophobic. They also did a number of headline shows.
The follow up to the critically acclaimed debut was recorded at Sunlight studio (Thomas Skogsberg) in November 1997 and named “The Only Pure Hateâ€. However, a couple of months after its release in April 1998 the band decided to split up.
