DEREK MELLOW / DJ MELO ?Musically influenced since birth by his parents, his dad’s mobile Disk Jockey Service, and a rich Portuguese culture, at the age of 8, he joined the
Filarmonica Portuguesa de Montréal and learned how to read music and play the Clarinet, Saxophone, Drums and Percussion.At the age of 16, while still in High School, he decided to start a DJ career. He volunteered at Radio Centre Ville 102.3 F.M, a multi-cultural organization, with the Portuguese team and learned how to be a Radio Technician. Eventually starting his own Underground HipHop Radio Show. That was a new experience and a new beginning...Since 1997, Derek Mellow / DJ Melo has played at several Cultural / Corporate events, Private affairs, Underground Loft parties and numerous Montreal clubs, such as:Q-Stix, Vertico / Polyesthers, Kokino / Orchid, LeBacci, Simply@Living, Skinnidip@Swimming, LeSugar, BlueDog, LeSaphir, X-Otika (cresent st.)
Copacabana, Blizzarts, LeLOFT, Jupiter room, KOI, Bar-Kode….Along the way, Derek Mellow / DJ Melo, has worked, and played many shows with bands such as “Headspaceâ€, “Syncop†and “Free Oxygenâ€.In 2003, Melo, Joined up with Annakin Slayd as a DJ & MC.
