About Me

Hi Everyone!
It has been two months since I’ve joined the Team and Training, and I am three quarters of the way towards raising $2,800 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. After running 14 miles with the Team In Training today, I have decided to challenge myself by stepping it up and running the full Nike Women's Marathon which will be 26.2 miles in San Francisco instead.
I’ve met many great teammates from the Greater Los Angeles Area, who are all very encouraging and supportive. The stories that I’ve heard and the reasons behind each member’s motive for joining the team has been very uplifting. It reminds me of why I joined the team in the first place.
When I was diagnosed with B-Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in August of 2003, I was classified as being in the 4th stage of the cancer. My experience through the 12 chemotherapy sessions and 10 weeks of radiation was exhausting, but I managed to overcome the side effects through the help of my family, friends, and even strangers. The response that I received from everyone gave me the strength that I needed to fight my illness, and in return, I’d like to give back to those who are in need now.
During my time of treatment, I received numerous of support by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. They provided support groups, information booklets, education programs, and financial assistance to those who were affected by the disease. All of which I relied heavily on to make an educated decision about my methods of treatment. After joining the Team in Training, I learned that the Society also invests in blood cancer research through the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations. Since 1954, the Society has awarded $483 million in research grants, and has been noted to be a part of several top research accomplishments, one of them being Gleevec, the leading drug for chronic myeloid leukemia.
Please help the Society advance in its mission to find a cure to blood cancer, and make a donation to support my participation in the Team in Training. Your contributions are tax-deductible (Tax ID# 13-5655916), and will help more than 750,000 Americans who have leukemia, Hodgkin’s or non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, or melanoma. You can either submit your donations through a secured website at My Team In Training Site , or you can send me a check and make it payable to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Please send me a message for my home address or if you have any questions regarding my participation in the Team In Training.
Thank you everyone for your support and words of encouragement for it has helped me tremendously during my training. For pictures of me during my moments of training, please visit My Blog
Sincerely,
Kim Nguyen
