About Me

Born "Donald Lee Williams Jr." to mother "Kathryn Elaine Williams" & father "Donald Lee Williams Sr." on July 28, 1972, in Ft. Knox, Kentucky. The man behind the infamous name "DeeLucks" (which is actually a spinoff of his family nickname "Dee", also in connection with his 1st personal home studio, "Studio D." - started in Sept. 1995, which he later renamed "Studio DeeLucks"),would probably be best described as one of the most influential, multi-versatile, not to mention one of the very rare musician, songwriter, arranger, producer, composer, that still exist in the new millennium. Growing up listening to "Parliament/Funkadelic"(George Clinton), "Bootsy Collins", "Rick James", "Earth, Wind, & Fire", "Mcfadden & Whitehead", "The Emotions", "Herbie Hancock", "Ohio Players" ,"Evelyn Champagne King", "Switch", "S.O.S Band", "Brick", "Maze feat. Frankie Beverly", "The Commodores", "Minnie Rippelton","The Brothers Johnson" etc., and at the tender age of 11yrs. old, begin to listen to, & idolize famous rockstar "Prince".
It's obvious when hearing his (which some has prefered to call) psycadelic music, that the famous celebrities mentioned above, were his musicology coaches & teachers. Being musically inclined was already a part of him since being in his mother's womb, DeeLucks proclaims, referring to a story she (his mother "Kathryn") often tells him. "Momma said, when I was a baby before I could walk or talk, I would crawl over to the stereo and point to records that I wanted to listen to. That let's me know, I'm not making music to impress someone, but that I really do love music", says DeeLucks. DeeLucks also says when his father (who was serving in the military at the time) met his mother "Kathryn". She was singing "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" (recorded by singer "Aretha Franklin" later by singer "Marvin Gaye") on stage. And says his being musically inclined probably streams also from his mother. Taking 3 months of piano in "Ft. Smith Arkansas" with brother "Shaun" & his younger sister "Katrina", (and wanting to go outside and play), however did'nt advance his musical skills to the degree needed to make it in the music industry.
"My sisters "Donna" & "Katrina" played continuosly, and they got pretty good. My brother "Shaun", he would play whatever was on his mind," DeeLucks says speaking of his 1 year younger brother."Mom would tell me to practice, but I wanted to go outside & play", continues DeeLucks. Luckily being gifted to play by ear and sight, DeeLucks comments that thinks to God, he has learned more than he ever could have by watching & listening to the concepts of other musicians & singers. He also has recently come to the likes of "Ella Fitzgerald", "Joni Mitchell", "Stevie Nicks"(of "Fleetwood Mac"), "Janis Joplin", "Steeley Dan", "The Eagles" & "Eric Clapton". "Not to get away from my black roots or anything, but some of those caucasian folks be jammin", DeeLucks chuckles."It's those old school cats from the 60's & 70's that got real soul, you know. "James Brown", "Jimi Hendrix", & "Barry White", did'nt have artificial flavor, they had real flavor", DeeLucks continues. "My grandmother ("Goretha Mae Young"), would always play "Barry White" 8-track tapes when I would go visit her in Ft. Smith Arkansas. After a while I would ask her to play them before asking for anything else that most normal children ask their grandmothers for. My brother, sister, & causins, would ask grandma for treats, popsicle & stuff. I would ask grandma to put on a "Barry White" 8-track tape, and then ask for a popsicle", DeeLucks remembers. He also touches on how his "Aunt Tina" always played "Earth, Wind, & Fire" 8-track tapes. "Man, "Aunt Tina" always played "Earth, Wind, & Fire", and "Mcfadden & Whitehead" . She loved "Earth, Wind, & Fire", while rolling in her white thunderbird, with green interior, those was the days", DeeLucks reminisces.
DeeLucks talks about, why he prefers not to use profanity in his lyrics.
"For one thing no profanity brings a bigger audience, & more money", DeeLucks laughs. "No seriously, I believe my music is for everyone, not just one group of people", he continues. "I've learned that death & life are in the power of your tognue, and if you are cussing, then you are actually cursing yourself without realizing it. I've learned that damn means to doom oneself, so if you are damning God, you are actually asking him to doom you. Not a very smart thing to do", he continues. "Besides you never hear people say, "Buhda damn", it's always GOD's name that people damn". "One does'nt stop to think why they are cursing the very one who wakes them up everyday, besides he(God) knows the future, what if the next word I decided to say was gonna be a curse word, or a word to curse his name, and he (God) decided that he was gonna take my last breath before I said it." Mmm words to live by.
DeeLucks also makes mention of his baby brother "Micheal Williams" a.k.a "LiL Mike", "Rashad Young" a.k.a "R.Y.", and his late causin "Brian Williams" a.k.a "Skully" (which after his recent suicidal death at the tender age of 24 on June 30, 2006, DeeLucks renamed "B.M.W.", which stands for "Brian Micheal Williams"). "Brian, Brian, Brian. The world will never know what was on that guys mind. I think alot of us in the family have pain mixed with a lil anger, because he had no idea how much we love & miss him. My Uncle ("Quinten Williams" - "Brian Williams" father), told me when we (my parents & baby brother "Mike") were in Hagerstown, Maryland for his ("Brian's") funeral, "If you never get anything from my son's death, realize how much your family loves you", DeeLucks softly & sadly speaks. "Me & that boy had plans. We were supposed to do music together, like me & my younger causin "Rashad" (of "ForeverYoungMultiMedia") do. I have his ("Brian's") computer, given to me by his mother ("Ruby Settles"), that has his music (including acapellas & instrumentals) & pictures in it, so I'm still gonna key him in were he belongs", DeeLucks continues. "As for "Rashad", he inspires me alot. That guy has came a long ways. I remember going to his house when he was 12 yrs. old, while he was living in a trailer park in "Killeen Tx.", with his mother ("Lavanna-("Aunt Sis") Young"), his 2 brothers ("Willie & Raynard Young"). We nicknamed "Rashad", "Shad", and "Aunt Sis" called him "Squirt". He was spoiled, and normally pretty quiet. He ("Shad"), would always take apart computers & stuff. So by now I believe he knows what he is doing", DeeLucks confidently says. "He's a pretty smart fellow. He is the one who encouraged me in my music. On Christmas of "1995", him ("Shad"), "Ray" ("Shad's" oldest brother) & their mother ("Lavanna Young"), came to Copperas Cove Tx.. "Shad" & "Ray", our "Aunt Tina" and her daughters("Tiara", "Tam" & "Tiffany"), my brothers ("Shaun" & "Mike"), came to my apartment, while "Aunt Sis"(Lavanna Young) stayed around the corner at my parents house. Rashad spotted my yamaha psr-410 keyboard in my closet & pulled it out. I was kinda mad at 1st, because I was trying to hide it for fear that it would get broken. After we started jammin, I was extremely greatful he pulled it down. He said I was jammin, while everyone else in the family was laughing, and telling me I need to give it up.
So if it not had been for "Rashad's" encouragement, I may not be as liberal as I am with my music today. It was him("Shad") who said "Don't be scared negro, play it" DeeLucks continues. "So I think God for my dear younger relative "Rashad". He has taken everything I've taught him growing up, & poured it right back into me. And all I taught him was love & music. So for him to pour it back into me, causes me to be forever greatful to him. Love & blessings sometimes are disguised, or masked, but they are there", DeeLucks softly speaks.
Last but not least DeeLucks wants to make mention about his (called before) "Little Twin", baby brother "Micheal Williams" a.k.a. "LiL Mike". "That kid is different. He's not very much into instruments. He just likes freestyling on the microphone, and taking pictures," DeeLucks continues.
There you have it folks. A mini bio on the man we call "DeeLucks". In his last words he mentions:
"You never have to worry about the future, as long as you know who holds the future"..................................................... ...............
