the Spins

About Me

.. The Spins first spun their way onto the Montreal scene at the very tail end of 2001. These charming creatures are most commonly found in their natural habitat – a dim room full of tangled guitar cords, mike stands, runaway drumsticks and blinking electronic thingies. Here you’ll find them engaged in their favorite activity of untangling chords and creating harmonies. This they’ve done for the record a number of times - first releasing the demo EP, Laptop Solo, in 2002. In 2005 they independently released This Mile’s End, which immediately climbed the college radio charts and made it into rotation on Sirius. Their EP, There Is No Them, was recorded with the support of FACTOR and produced by Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Godspeed You Black Emperor!). There Is No Them was released in September 2007 and the song Cougar climbed radio charts across the country. Their upcoming CD, Icebergs Moving Through Open Plains produced by Brian Paulson (Wilco, Superchunk, Beck, Slint) is due to be released in April 2009.But don’t let The Spins’ humility and awkward sonic grace lull you into imagining they’re charming but harmless creatures. Armed with only their superpowers of sincerity and empathy, and a well honed taste for pop sweetness sullied by rock’s dirty and distorted pleasures, they’ve played the reloved music they call “rockno” to packed and appreciative audiences each and every time they emerge from their lair. They’ve sold out shows at Pop Montreal, headlined a MIMI showcase, been chosen to play CMW, and found loyal audiences everywhere from loft parties and galleries to bars and festivals.
