About Me
Sgt Sean H. Miles was my brother. He was killed in Iraq on January 24, 2006, less than 2 weeks from when he was scheduled to return home after a 7 month long deployment. While showing a relieving platoon how to conduct an area search, Sean's men came under fire. He saw that one of the new men did not know where to go, and was being fired upon. Instinctively, Sean pushed the Marine to safety, exposing himself, where he was struck in the back of the neck, killing him instantly.Sean received the Purple Heart, as well as the Bronze Star with a V for Valor; the Bronze Star was presented to his widow Gen at his funeral in San Antonio, Texas. What Sean did does not surprise me in the least. Sean was my little brother, yet he always had my back. As any of his many, many friends would attest, he stood up for what was right, and never hesitated to help out someone in trouble or need.So many people have been moved by my brother's selfless act. We have received word from people all across the United States, most of whom we have never spoken to before, who were moved to tears by the stories they have read about Sean.Words cannot express how proud I am of my brother; he stood for a way of life that many people take for granted. He wore the Marine Corps uniform proudly, and in a way that made it more than just a uniform. Sean was the consumate Marine, a proud American, a loving father and husband and son, and the best brother anyone could have possibly ask for.
