RUNN SOUNDinitially started out as the Cool Runnings Soundsystem in 1985 in the basement of the Reggae Coffeeshop Cool Runnings in Maastricht Holland with selector Robert (King Whitey) and Chipie, 2 friends crazy about reggae, travelling up and down on regular base to the UK, buying records at importstores.
Making name for themselves as reggae djs by juggling almost every weekend in the basement of the Coffeeshop, they decided to take this love for reggae music on a higher level.
So the owner of the sound King Whitey, started to search contact with other sounds, artists and reggae enthousiastics in the scene back then and started to play at various venues in Holland and Belgium, organising dances and supporting for concerts european wide, this gained them recognition among the other sounds and the reggae loving crowd.After gaining experience in the soundsystem bussiness nationally and with the contacts they gained in Jamaica King Whitey took a trip to Ochi Rios in 1990 and performed as guest selector at a club called Thrillers in Montego Bay and at the Jamaican Beach Bash alongside GT Taylor and Mighty Mike .
A few years later the original name Cool Runnings was changed into RUNN SOUND and the sound started to focus more and more on building up a ritch collection of so called 'dubplates' voicing artists and collecting dubplates of most who crossed their path
Over the years RUNN SOUND played several times in Jamaica,UK, Belgium, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, participated in numerous national en international soundclashes alongside the big sounds of Europe and opened for various reggae artists on european wide tours.They played at most of the bigger and welknown reggae events organized in Holland and Belgiumand performed alongside international artists like:Anthony B , Culture , Pinchers , Prezident Brown , Mad Professor , Gentleman , Determine , Shinehead , Macka B , John Junior, Dantan Humble , U Brown , General Levy , Chucki Starr, Omar Perry (son of Lee), Black Steel , Papa Levi , Jah Malski , Daddy Rings , Dego Ranks, Nardo Ranks , Natty Remo , Mikey Spice , The Robotics, Vivian Jones , Thriller Jenna, Axx Of Jahpostles, Hindu , Panache Culture, Tony Tuff , Jack Radics , Professor Frisky, Chiney Eye, Sonny Wonder, Satta Ranks, Jaggy Dee
