Asad was born in Indianapolis. IN. He was given the name of Richard Powell He later legally changed his name to Rasel Assad I to embrace the fullness of his African culture and Rastafarian life /Asad mother was a singer who sung gospel r&b funk soul jazz and travel all the time to different states and countries singing her songs Asad's mother even was a music teacher at one of the university she attended/Asad was not only gifted with a family of musican/but the gift of writing and rearranging lyrics to song at the age of 7/ at age of 10 Asad was writing poetry and his classmates would pay him 50 cents- 1.00 to write them poetry to get the girls and it work..At the age of 18 the high school teacher of literature was about to teach about the different forms of poetry She was interrupted by Asad who ask to take the test before the subject was learn and Asad was given the test and scored 100% Asad attended Indiana University /St. Phillip College/San Antonio College . While attending San Antonio College He completed his courses on radio production with a 3.5 grade point average. He became the first black dreadlock rasta to play alternative and reggae together and to dj reggae music to San Antonio on ACCD radio station Asad's radio show was named The Reggae International Show where Asad not only played the music but he opened many doors for reggae in San Antonio by teaching the people all different forms of reggae ,ska and carribean music such as soca and disspelling any ignorance about the music Asad was a dj for ksym 90.1 from 1998 to 2000. Asad hosted and dj the sound for the Bob Marley Fest in 98 and 99 and 2000. In 1999 he sang in the bob marley fest teaming up with local tx rappers in front of 2000 people. He mc/dj for michael rose,andrew tosh,and interviewed the late great joseph hill of culture. He also linked up with Iku who attempted with Asad to bring reggae acts to San Antonio Asad was in charge of booking reggae bands making sure bands were taking care of..He also open the door for people of San Antonio to enjoy Reggae and all types of Urban music at the sunset station/Asad was voted according to The San Antonio Current as the Best Dj in San Antonio in 2000.. Asad was also let go of the radio station in 2000 due to the powers that be/ However Asad did not let that get him down..He kept the Reggae vibe alive and dj various clubs/and even form the group The Lion I Sound which played at o'neils /various clubs /first fridays slams in San Antonio/ and traveled over texas to play however after envy jealousy arouse with egos the band went their seperate ways. Asad begin to look within himself He stop working for the corporation and begin to work for himself at the local flea market as a vendor of carribean/rasta apparel, jewerly and african masks and arts ;He however put the Flea market aside after 3 years in business and decided to go back to school Asad recieve his certificate for building ,fixing and being a software specialist on computers Yet after recieving his certfication Asad was still unhappy inside so he returned to his first love music /Asad begin to write lyrics for songs He has over 500 songs written right now/Asad also is starting in a new movie called Angel Dust produced/directed by Brad Blank which will be released in 2008 in your local blockbuster video stores/and you may here Asad music in the movie /right now the director is serious on making some of his songs as the sound track/ Asad is currently working with skip(make it work records/17 freeze )who produced tracks for juvenille/50 cent/and work with dr. dre on some tracks/Skip also has played in England Europe and traveled all over in the music business so He knows what it takes to make it in the music business/as a result Asad has appeared in his own music video dir/produced by skip called Dredlock moving on./currently working on his new cd son of soul all tracks are produced by skip wayne/songs are written and arranged by Asad and some songs are co-produced by Asad. The release of the cd is scheduled for March which will be played on various internet stations /Aol/Yahoo/I-tunes /and distrubution of cd over the country as well as the world /He is a very serious nyabinghi congo rastaman who believes in upliftment of first his black race next of humanity.He is a vegeterian,and follows nyabinghi order strictly. A very cultural indivual who knows who he is and where he wants to go in life. He express King Selassie I as the Mos' High and KING of his life with respect for other beliefs.He quotes many are called and few are chosen and jah chooses a man path so you can't fight another man human right to be/are follow what he chooses/ respect
