I think although I'll never get to meet Johnny Cash in this lifetime, I cam close to meeting one of my other heros by seeing Joe Strummer play the Hootenanny in Irvine on his last tour. I will always remember seeing Joe from the second row, as he knelt down on the stage and invited us to "Come closer everybody, the best looking blokes in Orange County". I got to see and hear him play so many classic Clash tunes, i dont think I will ever forget the joyful feeling of that day and how i left walking on a cloud. A true gentleman, and as his partner from The Clash said at Joe's memorial service, "His heart was just to big for this world. Our friend and compadre is gone. God Bless you, Joe!" I think the video below, his version of "Redemption Song" is a heartbreaking but lovely farewell to this man who beleived in everyone, and that anything is posssible. Go straight to Heaven Joe, the door is wide open. Say hi to my parents for me, i think you'd like them.
