Cheers
Formed in 2002 in Guernsey THEE JENERATORS began when Mark Le Gallez (The Risk) decided to pick up the guitar and form a Garage band. He recruits Stuart (Ozzy) Austin, sticksman with The Risk among others, and Steve Lynch on Bass.
After one extremely loud and shambolic but fun gig, Le Gallez drops the guitar and takes lead vocal duties and asks Matt Stephen to join on guitar.
Gigs ensued and then comes a trip to Liam Watson’s Toe Rag studio in London to record an album. 10 tracks cut live in 4 hours.
Jenerator X (released on Twist Records) was a raw Garage Rock’N Roll shindig. Single Mystery Man became an instant floor filler and got rave reviews.
Whilst in good ole London the band fire down to The Dirty Water Club to play their first U.K show. This gig secures them many more supporting The Brian Jonestown Massacre,The Cynics and The Cannibals to name a few.
2004 and it’s back to London and Toe Rag to record, from which the Burn The House Down single comes. The track French Disco later appears on a Howitzer Records compilation.
2005 and the band add sax player Henry Castledine and release another single ‘Who The Hell Is Frank Wilson’ released on Biff Bang Pow Records to great reviews. The band‘s sound starts to evolve into a dirty heavy Soul and Rock’N Roll machine.
2006 saw another track ‘Shake Some Action’ appear on the Shimmy compilation from Biff Bang Pow, and also what some would describe, a turning point for THEE JENERATORS.
Matt Stephen decides to call it a day, Steve then hands over bass duty to Nick Dodd and picks up guitar where Matt left off. Then Garrick Jones joins the troop on sax.
So now armed with 2 duelling sax players and a new lease of life, the band are now a 6 headed, 12 legged monster. Whaaaaaaarrrgh!!!.
2007 back to The Dirty Water Club and then up to Ed Deegan’s Gizzard studio in Hackney to record another album, ‘The Kids are Not Alright’. 15 tracks this time and this saw the band really blow the doors off with their sound.
Immersing themselves in 50’s Rockabilly with ‘Checkin Out’, Surf/Twang on ‘Rockahula and some Psych/Mod with ’5 Years On The Edge Of Tyme’.
2008 saw the band play some blinding shows. The Vale Earth Fair and Guernsey Live Festival come to mind.
In September our group of merry men decide to head off to Blighty again and book themselves into Modern World Studios in Tetbury. Opting for a more produced and controlled approach, this was the perfect studio to record, the next chapter in the ongoing saga that is THEE JENERATORS.
‘INSIDE OUTSIDE’ the band’s 3rd album shows this band fully stretched in so many directions it’s hard to work out how they fit it all in so easily.
Take the Skanking reflexes of ‘I Know What I Bloody Well Want’ and the 60’s Trash Powerpop of the title track ‘Inside Outside.
Turn it on. Turn it up and I dare you not to Bomp.
“The Sex Beatles. The Punk Commitments. A frenzy of horns and a stampede of pounding rhythm and guitar bite served up with a topping of Le Gallez’s hot vocal sauce. (May contain nuts)
Le Gallez leaps, swings and tears the place to shreds whilst being regimented like a General Jekyl commanding his troop via vocal howl.
Chuck in Ozzy king of the rumble for a tribal meltdown of tub thumping Rock’N Roll moon beats.
Nick zips around the bass like a speedfreak guitarist who has failed to realise they have removed 2 of his strings.Solid and Punchy in his own words ”very nice thankyou”.
Steve no frills, plugs in, turns the amp to stun and lets rip a guitar attack. Subtle one minute. Floored the next. Tone. Tone. Tone.
All this racket wouldn’t be fit without the lung power that help’s drive this machine into dancefloor frenzy. Gaz and Big H forever duelling saxophones.
Tuba or not tuba that is the question?
Don’t ask!”
