About Me

Now playing: The Woods
Hi, welcome to our myspace hideaway!
We're an exciting rock band based in Bristol, UK. We play catchy piano/guitar-driven songs in the good old '3-minute classic' tradition. We aim to provide some respite from the latest bandwagon rolling round the circuit and believe that classic singer-songwriting will always have a place; let no-one tell you what's 'cool'! We hope that our passion and sense of fun comes across in our music and live performances. Look out for us at the likes of the Bunch of Grapes, Croft, Fleece etc.
We hope you enjoy what's here - please come back for gig up-dates and blogs. Lord knows, there may even be some new music and live footage from time to time!
Cheers, the Woods

We also like to put our own spin on the odd cover from the likes of the Who, the Jam and the killer Jerry Lee.

2009 Gig Report No. 13 - Farriers Arms (25/10/09)

Another Sunday afternoon spot at the Farriers and, alas, a poorly attended one. This is the type of gig that leads to many bands shying away from playing pubs. After the fireworks of the Golden Lion s...

2009 Gig Report No. 12 - Golden Lion (2/10/09)

If not the best gig of the year, it was certainly one of them. The Woods gig-radar picked up a distress signal from the Landlord of the Golden Lion in Fishponds and, after a frantic dial-around and wi...

2009 Gig Report No. 11 - Fire Engine (12/9/09)

Back to the Fire Engine on a Saturday night. The words 'tough gig' come to mind! Pretty muted throughout due to the place being only half full and we had to work extremely hard to get the crowd (and, ...

2009 Gig Report No. 10 - Red Post Inn, Peasedown St John (5/9/09)

Another gig outside Bristol, at Peasedown St John near Bath. We received a distress call from the Landlord a full three days before this one, saying that he had a party/regular Saturday night slot fol...

2009 Gig Report No. 9 - Glazebrook House, Devon (15/8/09)

Well, this was one for the ages! Monumental stuff for several reasons:1) The occasion was the wedding of erstwhile Woods guitarist/vocalist Jon!   How many grooms play their own wedding reception?2) I...

2009 Gig Report No. 8 - Farriers Arms, Bristol (26/7/09)

It was back to the Farriers last Sunday afternoon. We've always found Sunday afternoon gigs to be a bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand, it's a break from the norm and you get a more relaxed vibe. But...

2009 Gig Report No. 7 - The Anchor Hotel, Warminster (11/7/09)

The Woods first gig outside of Bristol! Great night, all things considered. Unusual crowd, not your typical gig-goers, as the bar staff confessed. Certainly, we struggled a wee bit in the first set to...

2009 'Gig' Report No. 6 - The gig that never was! (13/6/09)

Hello again. For those who don't know, we recently launched a website. It's our attempt at being more proactive in getting gigs and a general shift towards the private party circuit. It's very much ea...

Well, we're all pretty excited about this - we finally have a official band website! Much blood, sweat and beers went into this, so I hope it was worth it! Go and check it out now at www.thewoodsbrist...

2009 Gig Report No. 5 - BS14 Club (17/4/09)

Ah, the dangers of asking for requests beforehand! On Saturday we played a 40th Wedding Anniversary at the BS14 Club, Stockwood. Whilst sorting this booking out I asked (as per usual with any private ...
