As a kid singing along to her favorite top 40 songs, Shannon never imagined that one day she would be singing her own songs. This was not a path that she set out to follow but one that seemed to surface from under her feet.
Growing up in Calgary, Canada, Shannon developed a love for music at an early age. Beginning piano lessons at six years old, she was always eager to practice and spent many hours plunking away at the keys. Musical theatre, and of course, band programs were highlights during her years in school, however, after graduation, Shannon chose to pursue other interests, certain that her time in front of the piano had come to a close - though music always remained a first love. A few years later, she convinced her brother to teach her three chords on his classical guitar, which opened the door for Shannon (and the guitar) to move to Vancouver, Canada, to attend university.
“Music was always an expression of who I was, but it was not something I did with the intention of using it in any future endeavors.â€
That all changed when this simple pastime became a passion, leading Shannon to a career in music therapy where she has had the opportunity to share the power of music and impact the lives of others.
“Music has an amazing ability to touch us and motivate our spirit. It can bring joy and healing to those persons in the most challenging of circumstances.â€
And it wasn’t until her move to Vancouver, that she discovered a desire to express her life experiences and perspectives through songwriting. Inspired by favorite singer/songwriters like Sarah McLachlan, Blue Rodeo, Stevie Wonder, and Chantal Kreviazuk, Shannon set out to pen songs that would explore universal themes of love, relationships, and the discovery of who we are and what our purpose is. And what also emerged were songs that allow us to eavesdrop in on personal moments.
Shannon Robinson, a gifted singer/songwriter, captivates those who hear her music - music that blends intimate and sincere lyrics with rich pop/folk melodies.
