BIG BANG THEORY was formed by singer/songwriter Sean Varney(aka Vern Obnoxious), founder of one of Detroit's most prolific 80's underground hardcore punk bands Anti-Social Degenerates . The band went on hiatus in 1991. That is when Sean and his brother and phenominal bass player, Chris "Jasper" Varney started the experimental punk band Swing Set. The line up included Sean varney - guit/vox, Jevon Bark - guitar and Frank Skrypak on the drums, later to be replaced by Shawn Grzyb. During this time period we recorded the experimental punk fusion record
"Psychobabble".After another drummer change we re-engaged with original ANTI SOCIAL DEGENERATES drummer and veteran musician Steve Kearns on drums. Sean and his brother Chris were a truly gifted songwriting machine. Swing Set started to morph into the band KLUSTERFUX by 1995. The Trumbull Theatre was alive and kicking and are roots just lead us back into this hardcore crust band that recorded one EP. We were way to billigerent and expressive for the peace punk crust movement then. It was so stuck up no one had fun at the shows. They just collectively never bathed and were always pissed about something. Nevertheless we ramained to shred a bazillion miles an hr, sceaming about oppression. While grundge pretty much wiped out the 90's in a scene that didn't know it's ass from a whole in the ground. It was hard to find somehwhere cool to play that wasn't So sub-genre specific. Very few punk bands made it through the 90's except the big money bands that tried to reserect the scene in the mid -nineties like KLUSTERFUX did. We wanted to be able to play the oldschool Motor City Hardcore we were used to w/out being called baby killers or some shit by these kids who existed as the excact oppositte from what they were protesting which was basically conformity as all punk genres do until they were so ensconsed in politics everyone forgot to have a good time. We just wanted to play hardcore minus all the rules that went along with it and what comes along? All these bubble gum bands calling themselves punks, mostly from the west coast who knowledge of punk started with Green Day and MXPX. I was disgusted with the Detroit scene then and threw in the towel. So I joined a band called The Horkin Gordies as a drummer. Wrote a whole set out of riffs I thrown away from his other projects and Ie finnished out that decade in complete decadence. What a blur that time was. At the turn of the millenium after battling a serious drug addiction. I decided to go to depths I never explored musicaly and wanted to be surrounded by the best of the best musicians I knew that would create the best chemistry as a unit and as I was having this explosion of creativety, that's when it came to me. "BIG BANG THEORY." I founded this brain child at the turn of the millenia. In 1999 I fronted the band as the singer/songwriter/guitarist with my brother, "The kid with mad skills" Chris (jasper / japs) Varney on Bass. Lifetime friend and musicaly the most talented, powerful, dynamic drumer we ever knew Steve Kearns rounded out the rythymn section. Now we needed a lead guitarist and we were not settling for just anybody. We have been a trio for years with incredible chemistry. We needed someone that could only compliment that. With the audition of a frett ripping guitarist named Shawn Warrow, formerly of the Strange Bedfellows we solidified our line-up. When a cat rolls up into your practice and plays all 30 songs of yours in one take. Grab him up. We utilized our musical chemistry to express our core fusion of musical idealism. No bounderies. No labels. An infinate vast explosion of creativety. Dynamics ranging from energetic bass lines, machine gun drumming and shredding riffs of dark and gritty punk rock, to earthy and somber pop melodies of substance and hook. Throw in some more 77 style punk to the mix and you have BIG BANG THEORY. A explosion of creativety and expression ! On August 18th of 2006 my beutiful, wonderful and talented baby brother left this world due to his excessive lifestyle. He wore a punk rock badge till the day he died. These tunes here are the last songs we wrote and published. The EP is called "Astronomical Proportions". Chris wrote 75% of the music. I can't see going on w/out him. Hopefuly people will pop by and leaves post's or blogs. Say what they have to say to Chris, or old fans who remember are shows. Remember my brother Chris and note that he was one of the most gifted bass player/song writer's in Detroit. He inspired me to move on along with members of the Detroit scene to re-launch ANTI SOCIAL DEGENERATES. And everyone knows that is where my true passions lie. So I did. All four original members of ASD re-launched wsg/ Murphy's Law @ Small's in Hamtramck, Mi. I will never stop writing, singing and playing in a band and living the punk rock lifstyle !
