Heroina was spawned in the summer of 2005 in Zagreb, Croatia. The band was forged out of sheer boredom, creative frustration and the urge to pay an honest homage to certain artists. The band’s musical direction might be described as chaotic rock and roll, caught in an affair with blues and archaic folk.Heroina, made up of Hrvoje Malic, Luka Brlek, Vinko Ergotic and Tom Palinic, stole the spotlight after taking the first prize in two of the most important musical contests in Croatia; The Sound Invasion Tournament in Zagreb and The Croatian Music Festival (Hgf) in Zabok. In 2006, they issued a self published demo record. That same year, based solely on their performance, they won a demo band tournament that rewarded them with a recording session in Zagreb. ‘Black Water’ and ‘What Have I Done’ were laid down and both tracks ended up on their first Maxi Single, 500 copies of which were printed. The year of 2007 turned out to be quite a significant year for the band. They appeared on the Croatian Radio Television on a number of occasions, as well as on the widely known Radio 101 and Radio student. These appearances included interviews and snippets from concerts. By the end of the year Heroina had prospered from a demo band to an (as yet) unsigned attractive club act, drawing more and more listeners and music enthusiasts with each concert. The Ljubljana Sessions proved to be a genuine creative process, in terms of further development of the band’s sonic structures. The group were given the opportunity to record in Metro Studio – one of the best studios in the whole of Eastern Europe.
It was an opportunity that was not wasted on the band and they set about recording a number of new songs, including By Night We Hasten and Surfswing Deluxe.Back in their hometown, four new songs were recorded: Devil's Well, Gypsy, Hide in Death a While, and Deep Into The Woods (We Must Dwell). All of these recordings will find their well deserved place on the forthcoming EP, due to be released in 2008.Heroina continues to play numerous gigs across Croatia and Slovenia and now the band is ready to face the challenge of playing to a broader audience all around Europe.
The passion and energy of playing to a crowd and connecting with them is what drives the band. It is those moments on stage where the band finds themselves complete.
