Leeds Rock Society dedicates itself to promoting and spreading rock/alternative culture amongst like-minded students of Leeds (we are part of Leeds University Union, but we are more than happy to welcome people from other higher education centres in Leeds). We host informal pub-meets every Friday evening (including outside term-time) in The Packhorse (opposite the University), which are excellent opportunities for new people to make themselves known.
Leeds has a great alternative nightlife, yet it is somewhat overlooked by all the welcome packs that Leeds' freshers are constantly inundated with. That's where RockSoc comes in! We aim to direct those who like to rock away from Oceana, Creation, etc and introduce them to such wonderful places and events as The Cockpit, Rock of Ages, The Wendy House, Friday Flock and, of course, our very own club night, Rock Soc and 2 Smoking Barrels at The Subculture (formerly The Bassment). Good times are had by all at these places, I can assure you. What's more, we also organise coach trips to clubs and events in other areas of the UK. Last year, we went to Corporation in Sheffield and Krazy House in Liverpool, not to mention the Download Festival at the spiritual home of rock, Donington Park.
So, if this all rocks your boat, then come to our next Friday social and introduce yourself. And remember, rocksoc is very open-minded about our members' music tastes. Some people are under the impression that we're all complete metalheads or cybergoths but nothing could be further from the truth! Whether you're into Megadeth or Madness, Bauhaus or Blink-182, Pink Floyd or Placebo, you're sure to feel right at home here!
