John's musical journey began in the foothills of rural North Carolina and has since taken him all over the United States. As a youngster, John's father brought him to the renouned festivals and fiddlers conventions in North Carolina and Virginia. Growing up at the Union Grove Fiddlers Convention, Mt. Airy, and Galax Fiddlers Conventions, his rock solid foundation in traditional bluegrass took form.
During his highschool years, John became interested in guitarists such as Eric Johnson, John McLaughlin and Pat Metheney, among others. Experimenting with the electric guitar led to more exploration, developing John's already amazing technique even further.
After several tours with bands, McGraw Gap, Spacestation Integration, the Steep Canyon Rangers, Old School Freight Train and the Big Fat Gap, John now finds himself in Chapel Hill North Carolina, where he teaches music and performs "for-hire" with numerous local acts.
