Sounds Like: Homage to sample based beats from the late 80s/early 90s. Not hating on newer shit but there is still music out there from that time that even the most dedicated heads don’t know about; trying to educate myself and anyone else who will listen. This time of music represents my youth and still is having a huge impact on the approach to modern music. That era has a sound that I prefer over most synth based beats I am hearing now, but it varies from song to song/artist to artist. For example some Roots Manuva tracks are tight because they have a soulful approach rather than an all out synth attack, but it does contain that synth element. Most music I listen to for the beat, then the lyrics. For example I will play some Donald D instrumentals over the vocal version because the plain music is more interesting. Usually the music I like is because there is an unmistakable element of soul, a drum piece or a break that moves me.
