Bad is good.
Really. This is not some kind of dichotomy-identification assignment, as in hot is cold, up is down, or even true is false. Forget that. All of that. In this case, there is no dichotomy; not even one oxymoron is present. And don't even think about looking for a conundrum. The reason for this space is simple: it's all about the religion of "bad is good."
You know what I mean. You've seen one - a TV show, a movie, or even a commercial - that was so outrageously bad... so unintentionally bad... that you can't help but watch it. This is the theory of "bad is good;" when something so lovingly crafted turns out so absurdly bad that you watch it and enjoy it for all the wrong reasons. It's this theory of "bad is good" which has helped to fuel American Idol into the collective consciousness of America. Sure, people watch to cheer on their favorite singers week after week, but ask any true Idol fan what his or her favorite part of Idol is, and he or she will exclaim with glee that the best part of American Idol is the first part: the open auditions. And why are the open auditions so beloved? Because of the BAD singers, of course. This example better than all others confirms that we all love to watch and to listen to the outrageously bad.
So join with me, fellow lovers of all that is outrageous, preposterous, absurd, or just plain bad, and revel in this space. While you're here, enjoy the videos, photos, and music, and then if you're so inclined, share your own favorite videos and music from the world of the awful and ridiculous.
