Born into a family of reporters, Lily spent much of her childhood at the Daily Planet. At the age of seven Lily had her first encounter with a superhero. She had been playing in her backyard when her ball fell into the pool. While Lily reached out to grab it she lost her grip and fell in. Struggling to keep her head above the water, Lily screamed for help. Just as she was starting to tire, a pair of strong arms lifted her out. She looked up and looked straight into the face of Superman. Superman flew her to safety and set her down on the ground. After that brief encounter it became Lily’s dream to fly and she spent endless hours jumping out of trees and off her rooftop attempting to fly. It also became the moment that she decided that she didn’t want to be a reporter like her mother Aleigha or her aunt Lois. Lily wanted to be a photographer, so that she could capture all the superheroes saving lives like hers had been saved.
Lily spent every waking moment drawing pictures of the things she saw. She received her first camera at age 10 and from then on nothing could stop her. She took photos of everything, of her father, Jake Spencer, when he was playing football, of her twin sisters, Sapphire and Veronica, when they were in the school plays, and of course of the superheroes in action.
When Lily was in her final year of high school at age 18, she finally got a job at the Planet. She became an intern and a junior photographer under the eye of Jimmy. Although she appreciated all the help and guidance that Jimmy gave her, Lily longed for the day when she could become a full-time photographer and stop having to take orders from Jimmy. That day came when she met Chloe Sullivan.
Chloe and Lily bonded instantly and became firm friends. They made a fantastic duo, Chloe as the reporter and Lily, the photographer. Lily soon found that the only way she was ever going to get a full-time job was if she quit school. Having never been an academic, the decision was easy for Lily and she dropped out. She applied for the job and was accepted.
Lily’s life changed dramatically at that point, she felt like she had it all, that was, until she met Peter Parker. Peter Parker was a photographer from the Bugle in New York. While the Planet’s superhero was Superman, the Bugle’s was Spiderman. Lily soon became friends with Peter and even discovered his secret, that he was Spiderman.
Ever since she first laid eyes on him, Lily had been attracted to Peter. She tried to deny her feelings, but they soon became too obvious for her to hide and she confessed her love for him. She was astounded when she discovered that he felt the same way. Lily knew that this was the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with and when Peter proposed she gladly accepted.
