ATTENTION EVERYBODY! THIS PAGE CONTAINS MOSTLY OUTDATED CONTENT RIGHT NOW, THE BAND IS ABOUT TO BE REINCARNATED, SOON A NEW MONICKER AND NEW MUSIC WILL BE POSTED! Right now it is mostly my "memorial page" for my ex band. Thanks for all your comments and support, "horns raised"!
In Low Spirits (ILS) were born in 1995 from the ashes of Laid To Rest, a very young project of Ivano Forgione , Marco S. and Marco D. that gave birth to a single demo tape of very raw doom/goth metal inspired mainly by early Paradise Lost. After finding a new drummer (Marco Salvadori) (founding member of Noctifer ) and guitar player (Marco Vigliotti, yes we were doomed to have every single member named Marco, except Ivano, aka yours truly) they found their definitive style, more inspired by swedish death metal and experimental dark/black metal stuff like Ulver, Arcturus, Ved Buens Ende, Pan.Thy.Monium (who remembers that awesome Dan Swano's project?) etc.
After a few rehearsals with this line-up they recorded the song "Soundless" to appear in an italian compilation of extreme metal, "Screams From Italy vol.2", and this same song appeared, among others, in the 1996 demo titled "Sunsets beyond our lives", recorded at the "Elefante Bianco" studios (named after a superb song by Area) in Rome (most of the pics you can find here are shot in there). After that, Marco Vigliotti left to play the bass in Oceana, the former main band of Massimiliano Pagliuso, now in Novembre and good old friend of ILS (cheers mate!): this was the beginning of the end for the band.
Marco Soellner (founder and member of Klimt 1918 , at that time named Another Day) joined us and helped to compose some new material, which was more inspired by Katatonia and other goth rock stuff. After performing our first and only gig at the Mondial Sound in Rome (supporting Disease, a thrash metal band that's still alive and kicking), the drummer left to concentrate on his black metal project Noctifer and Marco De Ritis left too, to join the brutal death metal act Corpsefucking Art (and he's still there). The latter helped us in recording two songs in 1999 (you can find both here, they were never released to the public up to now), in the studio of Massimiliano Pagliuso (which was located, at that time, in his own house). Later, in 2000, after rehearsing a bit with a new drummer and bass player (Fabio Zonta and Adriano Neri, ex bass player of Novembre and Klimt 1918), and with Francesco Tumbarello (who later joined Klimt 1918, helping them compose and record their first EP) replacing Marco Soellner on guitars, Ivano left Rome for work reasons and the project evaporated.
Now, after more than 6 years of inactivity, the flame has been lit again, thanks to the new technology and capabilities offered by the Internet, driven by all the experience we gathered and the huge amounts of music we listened to and grew a passion for. New stuff is being composed and will be recorded soon in the form of a new demo cd and online mp3s, in the same vein of the stuff we recorded 10 years ago, but with much more maturity, both as persons and musicians. With the new line-up we have been rehearsing new stuff for weeks now and are almost ready to kick ass! Thanks for reading, we'll keep you posted!
