About Me

Wot's New: 15th May 2009Has closed his photography profile and is moving furniture in here. Can someone grab hold of the other end of this cabinet? Thanks.A new Photo Blog posted today. And lots of new images [to this profile] posted further down this section. [Somewhat pointlessly points down! : )]Featured inspirational photographer: Mike SmithwickThe return of WotCam! New hopeless, cheap, amateur videos in the Video section. Starring... Willow as New Lassie. : )You can also now see my photography as an evolving chronological photostream [with loverly large sized versions] by following this link to my Flickr Slideshow . Thanks. : )Wot’s WotcastWot's Wotcast has been temporarily suspended. Apologies to viewers/users of this profile. Normal service will resume as soon as possible. While listening, maybe consider losing yourself in some stunning photography from some of my favourite photographers on Flickr here........................................................ ........................................................Thes e photos [and more] appear in the holiday blog: "We must’ve been so much younger then..." Go see... : )........................................................... .................................................. Wot’s PhotographyHere is a sprinkling of my documentary/portrait photography. Most of these were taken a little while ago - during the past decade or two [scroll down for new work] - and I developed and printed them all by hand. At the time, I’d never even so much as taken a black and white photo before, so it was a bit like rediscovering the wheel; and an immensely enjoyable period.I’ve little doubt that this traditional form of photography will survive - if only in pure hobbyist form - and I will always have fond memories of that truly magical moment, when the image slowly emerges from the chemicals before your very eyes, but I guess all things must pass, eh? But these images - even when metaphorically digitalised in here - possess an unmistakable tonal quality which digital can’t quite compete with… yet.At The Zoo : Watching The AnimalsCast In StoneSafe In Your ArmsThe Wedding : ReflectingThe Wedding : Looking for DadThe Wedding : Final PreparationsPeachEmilyWot's New Digital Photography My own switch to digital was made virtually complete by the purchase of the beautiful Nikon D300 at the tail end of last summer. I will be adding some of my latest images into some dedicated blogs along the way, but here are a few of my recent favourites in isolation:Which Way Is Up?Holding On : But Not To Each OtherHow Are We Looking? The City Noise : Westminster BridgeThe City Noise : Somewhere ElseThe City Noise : The Language Of RoutineThe City Noise : I Thought I Saw Your FaceThe City Noise : Rapid TransitThe City Noise : Plague Of GhostsSearching For Inspiration : The PoetWho’s The King Of The Jungle Now?EmbarrassmentEyes Front!Does The Wish Come Out Of Here? The Quay : How Things ChangeVenus In FursThe Waitress : Between TablesPoised… To Make A ChoiceInside

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

People who are warm, humorous, honest, creative, enthusiastic, thoughtful… Well, everything I’m not, really!I haven’t joined MySpace as some form of obsessive compulsive popularity contest; I really would like to simply make a few genuine friends, from different parts of the world, thanks to the gift of this extraordinary medium. However, I’m also aware that some potential visitors to this page might do so to simply listen to the music and/or view the photography – as opposed to wishing to bore themselves rigid exchanging pleasantries with me directly. So, if that's you, please let me know, rather than just resorting to anonymously whacking the 'Add Friend' button with a mallet. It’s my prevailing ambition to keep the number of friends on this page below a manageable three figures. This means there will be an inevitable periodic culling; think of yourself as a harp seal pup on the Canadian ice flows. It’s my intention to only club the weak, dull and seemingly distant. [A policy that could be adopted in our high schools.] “All part of the intelligent, conservative approach to the conservation of my space environment.” [Source: Canadian Minister of Fisheries and Oceans.]
Humanity trying its utmost to disappoint [and/or Wot humanely, clearly, dispatching another friend]Friends will also likely be culled for sending too many images of sparkly dolphins riding unicorns coupled with trite platitudes urging me to have a lovely [insert random day of the week here]. Clubbing to death under these circumstances would arguably be too kind.Should you wake up one day to find my ship has sailed and you’ve been left battered and bleeding on the ice, simply write and ask to be added back as a friend - you’ll have gained considerable additional kudos for actually noticing the absence. We can then discuss the relative merits of our friendship. If your injuries aren’t too severe we’ll sail into the sunset together. Or I’ll make you into a nice hat......................................................... .....................................................Music often possesses the simple, innate beauty of being able to lift the mood and set the spirit free. This is Kumi, a blind Tibetan student. I defy anyone not to be moved by the passion within this short performance, and witness his confidence and pleasure growing as it progresses. [Oh, and you've got to love the bit where he takes a gulp of air at just the wrong moment. :)] Enjoy... Kumi Singing
