Miss J is no stranger to music business. She's been working behind the scenes as well as on stages.
From Anttila's (one of Finland's biggest departmentstore) music salesperson to music buyer intern to backup singer and finally to soloartist.
Back in 2002 Miss J got to known Yavis, finnish female rapper. They became friends and soon started to work together. Yavis released single called "Mindgames" where Miss J was singing the chorus that she wrote it.
Playa Playa - can you play this game
you can never beat me
i control these mindgames
no matter what you do
no matter what you say
you can never break me
i control these mindgames
Miss J also appeard on Yavis "Baggypants comics" EP (2003). Songs called "What they told me" and "Bright sunshiny day" included her soft voice.
2002 another finnish female rapper Mariska hired Miss J for backup singer / hype gal for her gigs. She released her debut album "Toisin sanoen" which included song "Miksi rakkaus" featuring Miss J. "I was really desappointed that they didn't released it as a single. Luckily fans loved it. I guess stories about broken heart and difficult relationships never goes out of style."
"One of the most memorable shows was definitely in jail at annual Sörkkärock in Sörnäinen (Helsinki). I've heard it's not the most notorius jail in Finland but let's just say it wasn't a kindergarden eather. Though everybody was real nice to us and the show was great so i got nice memories from that."
Another "oh my gosh whatta show" was Rap Against Rasicism event in Helsinki few years ago. The president Tarja Halonen was the godmother of the event and at some point she came to see the show with her husband and the security team. "The athmosfeare was unbelievable. Everybody was so excited when it was announced that she's gonna be there. That peticular weekend Mariska had two other gigs. At that time i was working from nine to five from Monday to Friday. Plus spendin the whole weekend touring you can imagine how tired i was on Sunday. We performed pretty early which made me really happy. Finally we're on: I'm doing my thang, enjoying the moment and wham - suddenly i'm laying on the floor! Once in a lifetime opportunity to perform for president and i trip & fall in front of her. I was totally pretendin it was part of show and then i got up. We sang one song after that with smile on our faces while i was cursing in my mind how clumsy i get when tired.
And who do bumb into when coming to backstage again?! Our dear president...
I'll never forget that."
In 2004 Miss J's song "Could you" was on compilation album "Black Night Presents: Radalla". First single was Silkinpehmee feat. Leijonamieli/ Anna mulle and Miss J/Could you. It went straight to number one on single chart in Finland. "I was so happy about it. What really blew my mind was the fact that "Could you" succeeded NRJ's show "Hitti vai huti" (=Hit or flop). It beated bands like HIM and 69 Eyes. If you don't know those bands are huge in Finland and now around the world."
Rapper Steen 1's asked Miss J to write and perform a skit on his latest album "Varasta pomolta" (= steal from ya boss) in 2005. She wrote F**k Fear. "Friends know i got that mean attitude in me. Specially if you try to hurt me or my friends and family - you'll see it. It's not pretty..."
Miss J writes all the lyrics for her songs. Her talent have been noticed. She's been asked to write songs for other artists too.
