[INTRODUCTION..]
On December 21, 1990, A very dextorous asset to the rap game was born.
DeMarco Winston, better known as 'Reaper' or 'Tha Reaper Shawty' credits
growing up in Opelika, Alabama in helping him to become the artist he is today.
Moving from Opelika, to West Point, Ga; & then transferring to Lanett {West Shawmut}.
However, tragedy struck when his grandmother passed, and forced him to be put
in Valley, and then ending back on the outskirts of Opelika.
Ever since his grandmother told him he was a very talented
young boy and music ran in his family, he has been making all types
of experiments with music.
[THE RAP SIDE..]
Reaper credits his grandmother for helping him on pursuing his dreams of becoming an aspiring rapper.
"I can remember her telling me i was always talented for my age", says the
skillfull DeMarco. He recalls it all starting one day while sitting in the 6th grade writing
a song in history class for a project. At first it was something like
writing famous artists' lyrics and reciting them. Then the teacher recommended
that he try something a little different and a bit more original. So Later that day
Reaper ended up writing a short song which was sort of a parody of "Welcome
to Atlanta". But in the sense of it being a history class, Reaper came up with
something called "Welcome to USA". He gathered the instrumental
and his version of the song and performed the song with a fellow
classmate named Quinn (Lil G). Reaper and Lil G do little mixtape singles
every now and then but Reaper takes writing and recording a little more serious
than people around the way.
[THE PRODUCTION SIDE..]
Reaper acknowledges his acquaintace to DK. Soso is where he was from so 'Soso' was his
alias for a minute. DK ended up showing Reaper the tricks of the trades of
producing hot beats and it became like a chore or a task for Reaper to start
getting on the beats. To Reaper it was simple as breathing and the beats
where somewhat complex. Reaper started off one or two beats a week, then boosted
to an outstanding 3 or 4 a day! Once everybody found out that he was on some
real beast mode type stuff, they were all asking for beats so he was asking
for about $100-250 a pop. Of course you know, in local areas no one has bread like that for beats
so Reaper dropped the price down to $25-50 and they were selling like hotcakes. Reaper
has gotten some beats stolen from him but that's a part of trying to come up, there is always a
jealous person trying to bring you down or take something that you have and they don't.
[THE RESUME..]
So far Reaper has no shows under his belt but has performed at a couple of house
parties locally.He's released a quite a few mixtapes Reapercussions v. 1 - 3..
"Part 1 was put out in 2002 and not very many people have it. Part 2 was put out
when I was 15 in 2006 and part 3 when i was 16 in 2007. I got another series comming up
called Reaconstruction.. Volume 1 drops January 9th, 2008." says Reaper. Also he has had
experience with so much home recording that it sounds studio
bound. Reaper has recently found a studio in Opelika that goes for $50/hr and he's pretty
much going to live in it. Reaper has done features with people nationwide. That includes
Cali, Chicago, Maryland, New York, Atlanta, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennesee, Florida, and Lousianna.
Reaper hopes to one day get a major record label and get plenty of exposure to help put his
hometown on the map with local artist 'Lyrikal' in their duet group called "LCM - Lee County Movement". Reaper is also a part of an Atlanta based group called "Deadly INTentions". And Reaper is in a dance group by the name of 4 stackz with 3 other members: Quinn, Tae and Qua
